Today I discovered a new book release at the National Library bookstore by local Canberra author Troy Simpson. The book is a collection of 301 humorous usages and misused of written English compiled by Troy.

The book is illustrated using humorous images sourced from the National library’s picture collection.

Being a book from a local Canberra author, it attracted my attention so I purchased the book and finished reading it tonight.

The book is written in three parts with part A covering classroom humor, part B covering the media and part C miscellaneous quotes. The classroom humor section includes various amusing student bloopers from exams and essays. Included are several complete funny short stories written by students. The media humour section includes an variety of bloopers from sources such as newspapers and advertisements. I found it to be an enjoyable and light hearted read. The collection of examples must have been an amazing and time consuming effort to find and collate.

The book also references a related website run by the author called http://www.funny-english-errors.com/ with an online collection of similar material.

According to the webiste, the book is being officially launched in Canberra at the National Library on 29 October 2010.

The web site seems to be quite popular and has also gathered 46,000 Facebook fans from around the world.

Well done Troy. I think it’s great to see local authors producing unique books of such quality and I wish you success with your book.

@astrjax: LOL. No, all the bloopers come from hard copy sources. The source of each blooper is cited here: http://www.funny-english-errors.com/about-us/sources.html.

was the riot act a source for any of the 301 examples?

Dear Jamie

Many thanks for such a positive, supportive review and message. It’s also nice to see Canberrans supporting Canberrans. Thank you so much.
