local ex Scientologist tells of coerced abortions

Jeanette Lang is a local ex Scientologist who has come out to tell of her horrific treatment at the hands of Scientology, and to call for a Senate inquiry into the practices of the “church”. I’ve always thought that Scientology was exploitative and a total sham, but this is truly shocking.

It particularly galls me that not only do these creeps get tax exempt status (which means we pay it for them) but that their claim to this status, and their behaviour, should be above scrutiny when such serious allegations are consistently made against them. In other words, why is it their right, their unquestionable right, to have us pay their taxes for them when there is a growing body of evidence that not only are they not a religion, but that they engage in many highly abusive practices including coercing abortions, deliberately destroying families, depriving seriously sick people of medical attention, human trafficking, exploitative labour practices, blackmail, stalking, and bankrupting the innocent and gullible?

If anyone feels like me then write to your local member or call them and ask them to vote in favour of an inquiry the next time Senator Xenophon attempts to refer the allegations of abuse to a Senate committee. Whatever Senator Chris Evans, or anyone else might try to tell you to excuse their inaction, this is NOT a crusade against a groups religious beliefs. In Australia there are no limits on what you can believe, but there are limits on how you can behave. It is called the law, and no one is above it.

All that is needed for the triumph of Scientology is for good people to do nothing.

If you are stupid enough to follow a science fiction cult at least make it nerdy/cool like the Jedi. Or Sith if you think you are bad ass.

If you are that naive to believe in to the practices of Sci-fi writer/nut job L. Ron Hubbard and scientology and force it on your family and do what they tell you that’s where you deserve to be.
I myself like Stan lee and the X-men

Stan Lee has his own religion that he started in the 70’s

Great to see the RiotAct used to promote a political cause, yep, just great. Can I post “advertisements” for the Liberal Party here?

The notion of a Senate inquiry into Scientology is absurd; it’s a complete waste of the Senate’s time, and the people who are pushing this are doing so for the sake of publicity, and to escape the normal scrutiny that would be required if they were to attempt to take any of this to court.

Is Scientology a cult that tells people how to live their life, and what to do with their bodies? Perhaps, but so are most major religions. If people are silly enough to fall for this then that is their choice in an free abd open society, and the government has no place interfering with that.

These disaffected jokers were staging their loudspeaker protest in the Civic bus interchange as I waited for my bus on the weekend. It was ridiculous the police didn’t intervene, and I was very impressed at the restraint at the Scientologists for not coming out and jobbing them. Wow, your family won’t talk to you now that you’ve left the religion, that hardly applies to Scientology alone.

I wonder how many newbie posts this will generate?

Even a demagogue like you started out as a newbie im sure. I wish I had your free time.

Back on topic. Ms Lang could have left the church/cult at anytime she liked so I think anybody brainless enough to be coerced into anything like an abortion then sticking with them for many more years and then whinge about it wont get alot of sympathy.

*snort* didn’t take long,

I dont understand how folk can think that this “religion” will get them anywhere. Christianity at least does not ask for a percentage from your income

Never heard of ‘tithe’, obviously.

Tithe and emotional shakedown are two different things, however conventional religion is guilty of emotional shakedowns too.

Maybe Xenu is the head of a galactic pyramid scheme.

I used to worship Miss Pat. Will she be the Virgin Mary character in your new religion?

I find it hard to believe that L. Ron. Hubbard has a religion especially seeing as he was a known lover of young boys, i wont call him a peadohile, i will just say that he liked to take barely clothed young boys/men out on his boat for extended periods.

I dont understand how folk can think that this “religion” will get them anywhere. Christianity at least does not ask for a percentage from your income and Islam does not have E-meters and the Jews do not believe in Xenu. Hmmm, i see a pattern there.

I recommend that everyone goes and has a personality test with them so they can tell you how bad you are and how much it will cost for redemption, they give you an autograped Tom Cruise pic if you rate high enough.

P.S. I am starting a religion where we worship Mr Squiggle, He came from the moon long ago to free us from our sins and to change the view of our world by turning it upside down.

He came from the far away land of 93 Crater Crescent on the Moon, flying in his pet rocket to deliver us from the evils of made up deities. It is only a 10% direct debit from your accountg and i can set up paypal for this.

I can’t stand Scientology, but if we’re going to criticise them for coercing someone into an abortion, what can be said for other religions that coerce someone into not having abortions?

Whilst I tend to agree, I think I would rather become a nun than go anywhere near that church. It never had me fooled.
BUT.. to some folk it is just what they are made to believe is the perfect thing for them and their families, they had the ‘wife beater’ way of keeping people down once there.

Kudos to those who saw it for what it was and left it the Hell alone or got them and their family out of there.

Sick ’em Rex!

Don’t think Potsie has any need for alarm personally. Maybe when the inquiry (if and when that) occurs and it’s in front of a court of law. Then one must be a little more cautious.

The truth should be out there in the meantime.

If you are that naive to believe in to the practices of Sci-fi writer/nut job L. Ron Hubbard and scientology and force it on your family and do what they tell you that’s where you deserve to be.

Poor thing. I’ll reserve judgement on the entire religion until the full set of facts appear but there’s no denying that she’s had a really rough time with those jerks she used to know. 🙁

She’s obviously owning her own mistakes and not just blaming everything on the scientologists, while at the same time she’s speaking publicly because she’s trying to protect other young girls from getting hurt by them.

That’s the most important type of courage!!!

they have lots of lawyers who can run you around the legal system so long you run out of money.

Postie, I hope they don’t drag you into court for defaming their business..

Sorry, did I say business…. must of been a type, I meant it to come out as ‘religion’. You can see how an honest mistake like that could be made.
