“Wow! That’s green, I love green!”
Giddy voices rang through the Lollipop Early Learning Centre on Monday (8 July) when children were greeted to freshly painted walls and vibrant new outdoor spaces at their preschool.
“It’s all about green at home. He loves green. He is going to love it,” the grandmother of the enthusiastic child remarked. Clearly, the new look was a hit.
Each of their rooms had been transformed with new brightly coloured paint on the walls, new furniture and toys and, in the outdoor space, new garden beds and sand pit sand and a fabulous green caterpillar planter.
The transformation and renewal of the children’s space was achieved thanks to the generosity of the local branch of Hudson Recruitment.
All the volunteers who gave their time on Friday 5 July to transform Lollipop Early Learning Centre.
“We have 30 people in the office – that’s 60 hands, so in a very short space of time we can do some pretty big things,” explains Dana Spasenoska, Regional Director of Hudson Recruitment who runs the Canberra agency.
“I am Canberra born and bred so I am pretty passionate about the town. We like to give back to our local community,” said Dana.

Hudson Recruitment support a local charity each quarter and reached out to Woden Community Service to offer assistance for a working bee at the Lollipop Early Learning Centre.

Nana Jbeili, Business Support Manager at Hudson Recruitment, is responsible for the local charity program and worked with WCS to organize the working bee.
“It has taken a long time to organize it and get everything together and get the right sponsors and the right people involved,” explains Nana. “It is so nice to be able to see what we have achieved. I really enjoy this part of my job,” said Nana.
A big day of work was planned with additional sponsorship from Bunnings and Taubmans Paint in the form of paint, paint brushes, sand pit sand, garden bed supplies and plants.

Debbie Bligh, Bunnings Activities Organiser from Tuggeranong and Heath Borwick from Taubmans Paint were on hand all day assisting with the work, and Suzie Duffy, Bunnings Activities Organiser from Gungahlin donated and ran a BBQ for the day to feed the volunteers lunch.
The day began early on Friday 5 July. Staff and volunteers from WCS set up the spaces for painting and furniture assembly. Two teams from Hudson Recruitment attended in two shifts over the day and were joined by a Capitol Works team who also assisted in the clean up on the day.

Earlier, the South Canberra Veterans Men’s Shed had made a beautiful caterpillar planter that was installed and filled with plants as part of the working bee.
“We are so grateful for the contribution everyone has made,” said Jenny Kitchin, CEO of WCS. “The generosity of Hudson Recruitment, Bunnings, Taubmans Paint, ACT Capital Works, South Canberra Veterans Men’s Shed and the many staff at WCS who have all volunteered their time and resources has transformed Lollipop,” said Jenny.
“I love our new caterpillar and my room, Fun!” said Melody, a child who attends Lollipop Early Learning Centre.
Lollipop Early Learning Centre provides a high-quality childcare service for babies to children up to five years of age.
