Long boozy lunch venue

I’m looking for a venue for a long boozy lunch with a small group of friends. Something warm and inviting, where we wont be shuffled out the door as soon as the meal ends. Prefer something central to save on taxi fares but happy to travel for if worthwhile. I’m after an English pub kind of vibe. Suggestions appreciated!

Wilburs in Hackett. Great food, great beer, and I don’t think their lunch trade is so busy that they’ll kick you off a table when you’re still buying drinks.
It’s not quite “old English” but it’s a lot more cosy and personal than somewhere like Debacle.

We are starting the Canberra Business Long Lunch, on the second Wed of each month, starting in June (June 11th). Proceeds will go to charity throughout the year. Check out our ‘brand new’ FB page , https://www.facebook.com/CanberraLongBusinessLunch?ref=hl
Details of first venue coming early next week.

The Kingston Pub in…errrmm…Kingston is great for that kind of action. You can cook your steaks on the grill exactly as you like them too. Mmmm…..might head there on the weekend with the boys for some man time.

Zeirholz in Fyshwick.

King O’s in the CBD or Debarcle in Braddon.

I’ve only been to Durham at night when it’s actually horrifying. Better to go just about anywhere else. But perhaps it’s a different beast when the big bright thing is ovrrhead.

Could be, I’ve only been there once at night and it wasn’t memorable but that was years ago. However, I’ve been there for lunch 20 or 30 times over the past couple of years and it’s been great every time

Durham Arms – pretty damn good food, excellent beer, booths, fantastic

As soon as I read your requirements, this is what I thought of. Pity Filthy’s isnt there any more, I loved that place.

And for the guy who suggested pappa rich, you’re surely taking the p$ss….

The George Harcourt Inn in Nicholls (off the Barton Highway) has an old English pub feel.

Yes, but if you book for lunch at 12, they will book someone else onto your table at 2.00. Which is what happened to us recently. And they don’t tell you that when you book. So if you are hoping for a long lunch, this is not the place for you.

Pappa Rich in North Quarter.

Ox eatery ..Kingston East hotel, they do rotisariee meals it latches onto a bar

How about PJs in Civic. Food is pretty good and well priced. Beers are cheap and you can easily kill several hours in the arvo there, inside or outside depending on the weather.

What about the Belgian in Kingston? Any licensed cafe is also a good choice for lingering indefinitely.
