Look how much clubs give to their dodgy mates!

Our Brave Leader, in his guise of number 1 pom-pom girl for the gaming industry has proudly announced that aside from stuffing his own party’s coffers with loot the licensed clubs have splashed around $12.5 million of gambling revenue to “the community”.

“The community” being the mates, associates, and relatives of the licensed club operators of course.

Mr. Stanhope tells us that 11.06% of net gaming revenue was poured out of the trough compared to the 7% they were required to pay for the right to be gaming moguls.

By my calculations that means the clubs tricked $113 million out of those Canberrans too stupid to do high school maths last year. Then they gave back a very small fraction of that money to their chosen favourites (plus a fair wedge of tax let’s be fair). This doesn’t sound like a great deal for the community for all that I don’t mind guzzling the cheap beer at the Dickson Tradies.

In the Canberra Club they have moved the pokies from the main lounge to a separate room. All good intentions but some of the members are none to pleased. If there was ever a club with some potential its that one but its just not utilized. Cheap place to drink in Civic before you go out. $3.20 for pints then head across the road to PJ’s and pay over $5 for the same thing.

The City Labor Club and the Weston Labor Club seem to have poker machines better segregated.

Dickson tradies is a mess, Philip tradies bearable. Tradies funds seem to be going in stranger directions.

I assume that any gambling money that goes to ALP would show up in political disclosure statements.

The arguments against poker machines are more to do with the damage done to some punters and their families.

The old Charnwood Labor club always seemed half empty. I gave up on it.

“Has anyone seen the new Charny Labour club?”

I couldnt believe when I saw the new Charnwood Labour Club. Its horrible wall to wall poker machines.

Stanhope fails to mention that the Canberra Labor Club contributes to his party in excess of $400,000 per year out of gaming revenue.

So, when are Stanhope/Corbell issuing water bottles to warn of the dangers of using poker machines?

thsi is a very odd media release.

why would a govt care about donations fro a third party to other third partys ?

hmmm

perhaps because like pig snouts to troughs, the act alp are linked to the act labor clubs.

and the pokie devastation that is wrought upon the constituents they claim to represent.

i haven’t been near the club @ Charny in years, not since I got the shit kicked out of me out the front of there for having a new bike.

mind, i was 12 at the time.
