Senator Humphries is making a point of the Government’s reductions to the public service:

The Australian Bureau of Statistics yesterday released figures that show public service job vacancies in Canberra have slumped to their lowest levels in 15 years.

“The ABS has belled the cat – Labor can’t continue denying that jobs are going from Canberra”, Senator Humphries said today.

“The ALP has continued to deny that jobs are being lost – this despite all evidence to the contrary”.

All national employment growth has been recorded in the private sector, with a significant decline in the public sector. Senator Humphries has called this ‘suspiciously close to natural attrition’.
Public sector vacancies have fallen 12.9% from May to August this year.

“It’s quite clear that Labor has very quietly begun to adopt a policy of natural attrition – a policy they’ve borrowed from the Coalition!”

Natural attrition. At least that’s better than Campbell Newman’s firing squad.
