Looking for a Dental Hygienist & Children's Dentist

My teeth are filthy and need cleaning.

I would like to find a practice that has a dental hygienist as well as a good children’s dentist so the whole family can attend.

I would prefer to utilise a hygienist than an actual dentist to clean my teeth.

Do dental hygienists exist in Canberra, and if so, where?

Hi Pedrose,

Totally agree with you, The place needs to be clean and also comfortable and it would certainly also be reassuring to the patient as you are going to go under a needle.

Since we found Jo in City, she has got a clinic near the fountain in City mall we have not since looked back. Nice place, friendly staff and knows how to treat kids.

I have got them bookmarked – http://www.justdentistry.com.au/

My 2 cents.

Mawson Dental Care
Suite 3
142-152 Mawson Place
Mawson ACT 2607
Have two hygienists

I had my teeth cleaned in Greenway Dental in Tuggeranong, they did a excellent job I asked them about a hygenist and they said that they were getting one in a couple of weeks. Heres the address…

Geraldine Ash is amazing with kids. She is at Brindabella one day a week and Corrina Chambers some days – not sure which ones sorry. There is a hygienist at Brindabella also, great job but can’t remember her name I’m sorry.

The deal with wanting a hygienist is that IMO they are gentler and specialise in the prevention of oral disease and cleaning. Furthermore, my teeth calcify rapidly and need very regular cleaning; I do not need dental checkups so frequently. And if hygienists are cheaper than a dentist, then that is a bonus too.

What’s the deal with a hygienist vs a dentist? Are dentists less good at cleaning teeth, or is it that you’ll pay less for a hygienist?

If you want to look up a dentist with hygenist attached, especially child friendly ones, can’t recommend Fiona Archibald at Modern Dentistry highly enough. Based in Civic. Self confessed floss nazi, but in the nicest possible way.

+1 – Amazing staff and service

^Sorry, that should be Kingston

Belconnen Dental Centre has a dental hygienist – or had one when I was last there, in September. She was pretty good, too – she started by polishing the teeth with some sort of numbing cream that really took the edge off what can be an unpleasant procedure.

Symmetry dental in Deakin has a hygienist that is not an actual dentist, as per your requirements. I went there a few weeks ago, she was wonderful:

Dr Graeme Flett in Campbell has a hygienist on staff. Dr Flett will check your teeth then she cleans them.

No recommendation as I have a very good dentist but quick look on act dental hygiene website brings up quite a few in Canberra … http://www.actdhaa.com.au/documents/DHAALocalityGuide1.doc
