Looking for a doggy play date?

My partner, myself & our dog live in an apartment close to the Gungalin Town Centre.
We are looking for someone nearby who has a secure yard, a dog or two, and who would be willing to let us drop off our dog every now & then for a play date while we are at work.

Our dog is a male Sharpei & is super friendly to both humans & animals. He is 6 months old, & is not desexed. He is house trained & knows basic commands such as sit & come.
If anyone is interested, obviously we could set up an initial meeting to see if the dogs get along.

If you would like anymore info please ask!

It’s kind of off-topic, but I thought kezzafezza’s hasty comment re dogs in apartments warranted further info for those interested. From RSPCA: http://www.rspca-act.org.au/files/view/?id=178

The onus is on the owner to provide sufficient exercise. Of course there are breeds that are more suited to apartments and backyards alike.

I can’t speak for all dogs, but I daresay there are few dogs that tear around the yard cutting laps while their owners are at work…

Thanks everyone for the help so far ??

Harry, we will be getting him desexed sometime soon – you cannot get dogs desexed before the age of 6 months anyway.

Actually, this is completely incorrect. Dogs can be desexed anywhere from 8 weeks of age, and it is in fact law in the ACT that dogs are desexed before 6 months of age.

Early age desexing is safer, faster and easier while animals are young

threepaws, our vet told us that we should get our dog desexed at 6 months of age, so I just assumed you shouldn’t get them desexed beforehand. I stand corrected. I do know that it is safer the younger you get it done, which is why we will be doing it soon.

I am looking for something similar for my staffy cattle dog x, but not with a male Sharpei that hasn’t been desexed.

Why on earth did you buy such a large dog if you live in an apartment? Poor dog. Dogs need backyards.

Wrong. Dogs don’t “need” backyards, but backyards are nice.

Believe it or not, Greyhounds make ideal apartment pets as they sleep close to 18 hours per day (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greyhound & owners I that I know) – a common misconception due to their athletic racing link.

Thankyou d1nny. I will look into that.

Kezza, Sharpeis are medium breeds. Ours is only slightly taller than a miniature poodle, but obviously a fair bit heavier. And regardless of his breed he is one of the friendliest dogs I have ever known (and not just because I’m his owner)
I don’t need to explain to you why we are living in an apartment, but he is definately not a ‘poor’ dog.
He is taken on daily/twice daily walks and visits the dog parks once or twice a week.
Even if we had a backyard he would still be an inside dog.

There is a line in here about certain Canberra raiders players and having an opening. But that would be inappropriate.

Whoops sorry that is pups4fun.com.au.

Hey there,

One of eWAY’s customers provides a facility for dogs of all nature to have play dates, you can find Rhiannon at pups4fun.com.

Actually, many dogs are done from around 5 months or so. You can get them done – some vets do, some vets dont. You can get a neutered dog well under 6 months from the rspca.

Hi there, I’ve heard through the grapevine that ‘Wok it Up’ in Gungahlin also volunteer to look after dogs during the day. Might be worth a try.

I thought all dogs, especially fighting breeds like this one, need to be desexed. Didn’t we just have a thread on this topic a few days ago where it said you need a permit to have a non-desexed dog? Just curious…

still entire? Okay – so you probably only want boy dogs then.
