Hi all,

I’ve had a search at previous posts and they are a few years old so thought I would post for updated information.

I’m looking for a financial planner to help sort out a budget and give me advice for investments/property. Preferably someone who doesn’t charge through the teeth and gives advice that is easy to follow and adapt to and knows what they’re talking about.

Any experiences (positive and negative) would be much appreciated.

No worries. If you are looking for some resources to DIY online try the budget planner on the MoneySmart website (https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/tools-and-resources/calculators-and-tools/budget-planner). This is a good place to start.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I will contact Malcolm and see what I can sort out.

Michael thanks for your advice – I will see how I go. Won’t know if someone is able to help me if I don’t test a few out!!

Hi motleychick

Take my comments with a grain of salt – I am a financial planner! Currently serving out a notice period with my former employer before starting up afresh in a couple of weeks.

You’ll find that many financial planning practices in Canberra are more set up to focus on retirement planning than they are for younger markets. This is just a function of the fact that most people don’t get so involved with their finances until a lot later in life (so good on you for starting early).

What this means is that you may struggle to find somebody who is set up to provide what you’re after. Malcolm Wybrow does seem to be consistently well regarded in this forum so he may be worth a call (I haven’t met Malcolm myself).

I do hope to be able to offer something that would be suitable in the future, so all I can say is watch this space! Jazz has been helping me out with a few advertising feature suggestions on RiotACT once it’s all ready to go.

Best of luck with the search.

Michael

Not only does he offer advice in easy to understand language, he also has access to some of the most brilliant minds in the investment/ property business.

I reckon you’d need a brilliant mind to be able to profitably invest in property at the moment. Prices seem to be going down everywhere.

I don’t recommend Daniel Brammal from Australian Independent Financial Advisors. After numerous clerical errors, including misspelling my partner’s name on a bank form, we stopped dealing with him.
