another option you can try is speaking to the music stores like Davis Wheeler and Better Music as they often are aware of local guitar teachers who are worth their money and also importantly patient with children.

Actually, I was trying to convince my son an ‘air guitar’ is best to start with for teh first 12 years but he’s not so easily fooled. Thanks one and all for the excellent leads and advice.

I’m so excited by all this I’m determind to replace the broken strings on my own guitar, learn how to use the battery powered tuner-upper doo-hicky and get down to playing some serious chords from my multitude of ‘teach yourself guitar’ books.

I now wish I’d payed attention in school and hadn’t been thrown out of music for breaking two violin strings in 5 minutes. My kids would be so much better off, musically speaking.

I just bought guitar hero and have advanced to the last few songs on medium difficulty. I can teach your giblet for no less than a six pack a week and he will truly rock at any song on easy and may suck bottom but survive the boos for the later songs on medium. I only teach legends of rock however as I haven’t bought any other of the games yet. We can even play co-op career so he doesn’t get frustrated…

All you need to provide is a big screen telly, a six pack, and some speakers….good speakers mine suck I’ve discovered. Oh and the six pack is for me you may also want to provide blackcurrant juice or tropical cordial for the little one. I’d bring frosty fruits but they’d melt.

Real guitars are so last century…

Bill also used to teach me (many, many years ago). Great guy and an excellent teacher. I’d reccommend him above anyone else.

Bill is a great teacher, lessons are $25 per half hour slot (at least, that WAS his going rate) but he may be all booked up. I have other friends including the metal guitar teacher at bell-chambers whom have also gone to Bill and testify to his great teaching 🙂 Highly recommend.

I also know that a lot of students at the ANU School of Music also give tuition at lower rates than people with 20 years+ experience, but I don’t know any names or numbers. But I recall that if you phone the school, they have a list of students who are also giving lessons.
