Hey Rioters, I’m about to move into an apartment with a friend, but it only has one car park. Hoping someone around 65 Macleay Street (between Towns Crescent and Condamine Street) has a car park they aren’t using and would like to turn into some cash.

I am amazed that the ACT government hasn’t provided residents with parking permit zones like Melbourne and Sydney councils, turning one side of the street into resident parking only (funny that a friend of mine has an easier time parking in Coogee than I will in Turner).

If the government did this, I would leave the car at home and ride my bike to Woden or catch the bus – but the lack of parking options near the apartment means I would have to drive or risk getting a parking ticket!

Good work ACT Government…

Hi Victoria Park isn’t that far away, I would park there.

“London style garretts” – sounds good.

Might finally put some life in this sprawling capital.

This shows that Dickson residents are right to have major concerns about parking on their streets as the unit blocks breed like ugly rabbits.

Developers want to cut down on carparking provisions so they can cut costs on new developments, so the lesson is to check before you buy or rent. Converting Civic Office space to residential will mean that parking spaces in these developments are more limited. One bedroom bedsitters may not have any parking space at all. We will have London style garrets in the future. It will only get worse, like for residents in Barton. Carparking provisions are only guidelines in law.
The transport plan is to walk, cycle or get a bus. There is no central ACT Transport Dept. The Hawke Review may change this and issue residents street permits and put more one way streets. What is happening in Turner now will be a pointer to the rest of the ACT as density intensification takes effect.
