Now I’ve joined a gym I feel the need for some oily Peking Duck to refuel my calorie bank 🙂

Hankering for Peking Duck and all that goes along with it..the pancakes and veg and the leftover bits made into soup or stir-fry.

Any good tips on where to find it in Canberra?

Thanks to those that responded. We had a great dinner – the restaurant is a real throwback to the Chinese places of the 70s, with little focus on decor or service but food sizzling and delicious. It’s clearly a popular place. We went on a Sunday and most tables were occupied and the staff run off their feet with takeaway orders. The Peking Duck lived up to it’s reputation although we probably should have ordered 2 ducks for the 6 of us, as our very hungry teenager could easily have devoured a whole plate of pancakes and meat. My only gripe would be that there was not enough vegies and sauce with the duck and it was very difficult to get served drinks or to order any extra food, as the staff were extremely busy. But the food we did get was delicious and we will definately return.

I can’t wait to try it out!

Yum thanks! Going to be checking out one of these places next week..undecided. Since I used to live in Taiwan and ate it regularly there I’m interested to see how it compares in Oz.

We hit the King Fook in Florey last weekend for three courses of duck. You get a whole duck, and then they prepare duck pancakes (prepared by yourself at the table, with all the accouterments – there would have been at least 20 pancakes), fresh made noodles with shredded duck meat and then a duck soup made with all the bones. Value? Unbeatable. We got to take all the leftovers so we could relive the menage-a-duck the following day. The three way duck cost $48 for the table – same if you had one person or 10. I wish I had more thumbs so I could give it more than two thumbs up.

+1- utterly agree, have been frequenting that establishment for at least 8 years and the Peking Duck has never been sub-standard..The price is low for what you get..Also, try their Beijing Pork Chops- ultimately fandabulous!

That’s great, but the OP didn’t ask for a history of Imperial China, simply where they serve duck in Canberra. Of course it’s not going to be a duck descended from those served to the royal family in the 16th century, but it’s still tasty.

Real Peking Duck in Canberra! You must be very naive. This delicacy was developed for the Royal court of the Ming Dynasty. It was served to Henry Kissinger in 1972 and then again when he made a trip back. It must be ordered 3 days in advance and is only served in about 6 specialist restaurants in Beijing.
What you get is a crispy skin baked duck, julienne pancake & hoisin sauce. You get the foreigners’ version that is good for business hopefully with fried rice that makes double happiness.

If that’s all true then it’s quite likely the OP is in fact hankering after exactly what posters here have told us about. Sounds like (s)he’ll find what (s)he wants, we all find out where to buy delicious Peking Duck as served to foreigners everywhere, and you’ve been able to drop in an affirmation of how wonderfully well informed you are. It’s a three way win!

Thailand71, you’ve just made me salivate all over my lunch…

Looking forward to suggestions on this thread!

Noble Palace in Woden.

Ruby in Dickson does very good Peking Duck; They only offer two courses though (pancakes and noodles or stirfry). The skin is golden and crispy, and the flesh is tender. It is also pretty good value. I haven’t had the dish at any other Canberra restaurant for many years.
