Looking for pet sitter in your home, not mine

I tried to re-open an old thread but it appears I might have to start a new one.

Can anyone recommend a company/person who provides dog sitting services in Belconnen/ Gungahlin area for when we go away.

The requirement is that it be

  • an in-home provider (their home, not ours)
  • someone who has, or has owned, their own small dogs
  • is happy to take the dog for a short walk daily (preferably twice a day), and
  • keeps the dogs inside.

We don’t go away very often and a kennel isn’t a suitable environment for my ‘special’ dog regardless of whether they claim to be ‘luxury’ kennels, but that is all we seem to be able to find.

Providing the dogs get on, I’m happy to care for your small dog in my home if you go away so maybe a reciprocal arrangement could be discussed.

Hi,
Just on the off chance you are still interested in someone to mind your pup, I would love to take you up on the offer of pup minding for each other. I have a sweet, gentle 11 mth old mini schnauzer Jupiter. I have 2 children aged 5 & 8, almost 6 &9 who are great with animals. Before having my kids, I was a vet nurse so you can be rest assured your dog is in good hands. We live in Nicholls so not so far from you. I am needing somebody to look after Jupiter from Sept 4-6 and I am very nervous about where I leave him. You seem to feel the same way about your fur baby. I expect it to be on the very rare occasion we would need to find somewhere for Jupiter to stay but I would be more than happy to mind your pup when ever you require. I would be more than happy to meet up with he dogs before you make a decision.
Many thanks
Michelle

Try Don’t Fret Pet. Not cheap, but have always been good. You may possibly then get the opportunity to strike your own arrangement with the carer and reduce the fees. I don’t advocate doing that as a matter of course, but like I said they are expensive and the carers come out of the arrangement worst.

Thanks for the suggestion but from what I can see, they will visit my house. I’d actually prefer someone to care for him in their own home because he’d get stressed and lonely being left on his own for too long. He was very sick as a puppy (for over 12 months) and because of this, he’s not as resiliant as other dogs.

My other option is get a house sitter to live-in but I thought I’d explore this idea first.

I assume we aren’t the only people in Belconnen/Gungahlin who would prefer their small indoor dog to be cared for in someone’s house?

Try these guys. I haven’t used them for a few years now, but I had used them sporadically for quite some time and they were always easy to deal with and reliable.
