A friend of mine has had her dog stolen from her backyard.

The 6m high fences are too big for Nanou to jump (small terrier) and the gates were padlocked.

He lives in the Kambah area – could anyone with information please contact MJ on 0402 529 375

Hasn’t anyone seen the movie Cats and Dogs? Nanou is obviously part of a counterintelligence canine team operating in the Canberra area. Someone(thing) spotted that stolen white triton the other night and alerted the cops. He was obviously doing work in the inner north and the surveillance van left without him.

You have it the wrong way around. Nanou is wearing a t-shirt and smoking a cigar in that picture. Clearly it was Nanou who was driving that stolen ute, taking some poor innocent bystander along for a terrifying ride. That’s why they have a 6 metre high fence to keep him in.

That’s not a t-shirt, it’s a sport jacket. Nanou has obviously been watching a-team reruns on 7mate and thinks he’s Colonel Smith. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a black labrador with gold chains running around Oconnor that day as well.

Is Nanou smoking a cigar in that photo?

Nanou FOUND late last night sitting in the middle of a road in O’Connor.

So… was there actual evidence of theft, or had he found a clever way to compromise a 6 meter (feet?) high fence?

Do you know where O’Connor is in respect to Kambah?

Do you know how high 6 metres is? Surely the fence isn’t that high.

Kambah to Oconner doesn’t seem that out of reach for a dog?

Is it possible a neighbour took him (and sought to dump him) because he is a bit barky? It seems very odd that he should turn up so far from home. It’s great that he was found, though.

Yes, but posters have already raised question behind the intention of the perpetrator.
Seriously WHO would steal/kidnap/abduct a Maltese Terrier cross?

I’m thinking of several scenarios here.
– kidnapping under a mistaken identity (lack of collar and tag)… perpetrator realises he’s not theirs so dumps him in O’Connor.
– Nanou is very adventurous and he did hitch a manly ride in the back of a ute to seek out the world, and ended up in O’Connar.
– abduction conspiracy theory (how is MJ’s relationship with the neighbours?)

Without wanting to freak the owners of the dog out, small dogs can be stolen for illegal dog fighting rings, to be used for training. Staffies and staffy crosses are also targeted for the same reasons.

Can only speculate as to what’s going on and don’t want to worry your friend, but a pet disappearing from an enclosed yard is not an isolated incident in Canberra’s deep south.

What are you inferring? A lucrative market for trading stolen dogs?

(***sorry deleted wrong sections of the quote!)

Unless your dog drives, or is part of a super secret hyper intelligent dog species with access to high tech dog transportation, it does see a long way for a dog to wander.

Great news.

Glad to hear, sorry if I caused unnecessary worry.

Sounds like an instance of exactly what you were talking about. Weird though, why steal ordinary dogs? There’s heaps of those Maltese available from the RSCPA, pound, dog re-homing services. I’d imagine labradors would be common too. Clearly someone is doing something.

I’m glad Nanou was found safe. No way he got to O’Connor on his own, and lucky dog to find such caring people to rescue him.

Another odd teleporting dog yarn…?

Yaay happy ending for Nanou:

Nanou FOUND late last night sitting in the middle of a road in O’Connor. Far too far for him to walk from Kambah in one evening. Family looked after him over night because they didn’t want to leave him at the RSPCA cages on his own.

GardeningGirl11:07 am 22 May 12

I hope he is found safe and well.
(After the earlier discussion can I ask why he doesn’t have a collar and tag? And also is it possible since jumping does seem unlikely might he have dug a hole or squeezed through a gap?)

Michael Linke of the RSPCA and I crunched the stats last year and worked out Tuggeranong is a hotspot for missing animals. Investigation was triggered by a Labrador turning up in Sydney eight hours after disappearing from Isabella Plains. My partner also noticed an unusually large number of missing animal posters around the local shops.

I’d link the article, but my former employer managed to wipe a decade’s worth of content from the web when it switched to its new digital management system.

More information:
Missing from Kambah area Monday night between 6:30pm and 7:40pm 21 May 2012.
He is a 3-year-old white Maltese Terrier cross with apricot ears with a patch on his lower back. No collar, microchipped and wearing a white and blue jacket.
If you see Nanou anywhere please contact Mindi ASAP on 0402 529 375 or 0412 488 000.
