More a question than a post – did anyone hear a series of deep loud explosive noises last night (22/6/07) coming from north Canberra region about 10pm.

Anyone who knows what they were?

Curious!

Yes, I heard 3 sets of 2 explosive noises coming short and sharp from a short distance north of Phillip. The 3 sets came in quick succession and extremely loud as if within an urban block possibly open carparks or maybe as far as the oval. Not to skew any observations but it sounded as I would imagine double taps from a hand gun. The slight echo from each rapport was cut short by a sound like ripping wood or thin metal before the next round.
Whatever caused it, sounded very different to the percussive effect of illegal fireworks been set off.

Oops – this was loud noises around 10pm’ish on 22/8/2021

Yes. It eas the new model Hyundai Elantra.
I seem to recall a few years back in Sydney, a gang was doing over Hyundai Excels. Could this be the start of something similar? I know the ne Elantra is fairly ugly, but surely ther’s better uses for TNT.

Well, there was that car that got bombed at Ainslie early this morning…

I, too, heard some unusual explosive noises. I live in Calwell. I assumed that they were late fireworks.

“sometimes you can hear activity at the firing range”
Locked and loaded at the firing range at 10 o’clock at night when its dark and you’ve probably had a few beers. Now that’s responsible gun ownership!

I was hearing a couple of loud things here in Belconnen. Saw a couple of youths in a carpark, So I just assume it was a bit of their fun.

Depending on where you live and the wind conditions etc, sometimes you can hear activity at the firing range.

Something was up. Plenty of sirens going along Northbourne Ave.

What!!!!! Are you suggesting people are still letting off crackers after the long weekend???? I thought we all agreed that it just doesn’t happen in Canberra (tongue firmly in cheek).

Either we’re at war with Goulburn over water and they fired the first slavo, or some teens were letting of fireworks in people’s letterboxes? Judging by the deep banging sounds in the south of Canberra around Lanyon and several wrecked letterboxes, I would suspect the latter.
