Loved the Artisan at Narrabundah

I finally got around to having a meal at Artisan (Narrabundah) today. I have been hearing many good things about it, and as we had a family birthday, we decided to give it a go. Well, what a great restaurant! We all loved it. Not only was the food terrific, the feel of the place is very relaxed (no surly waiters to be seen).

The best part was that I thought it was very, very reasonably priced… and for the record I don’t work for them (or even know them) – just had a great meal and a great time.

I am a little disappointed after reading in The Australian yesterday that they have been listed in ‘Australia’s 50 Hottest Restaurants of 2012’ because I think our little find at the Narrabundah shops is not going to be so secret any more by good on them for making it.

I was also pleased, and also dismayed at the same time, at seeing them listed.

It is certainly well deserved and congratulations are in order but I’m sad another of my ‘hidden gems’ is now becoming well known.

I was also happy to see Grazing listed. They were had a Kitchen Garden and were using local seasonal produce, matched with local wines, well before others caught up with this basic principle.

Wini, just wanted to thank you for sharing your find. After reading your recommendation about Artisan on Riot Act, I have been there a few times. I keep going back because I am gluten free and find it so hard to find places in Canberra that actually take this seriously.

It sounds great! Definitely one to try – thanks guys.

As for expense the beef was most, I think is was about $32.00 – which considering some restaurants are hitting the $40.00+ range, I thought was good value.

On the current menu the beef is $35 I think, and that is without side dishes. Adding greens or a salad brings it up over $40. Not saying it isn’t good value, but a two course meal with a couple of glasses of wine and coffee is around $80 per person.

We had a group of five, so we had a range of items (beef, duck, lamb, fish and the pork belly). I had the beef and it was perfect. Everyone esle really enjoyed their selection (there didn’t seem to be a ‘dud’ dish). You wouldn’t duck down for a quick work lunch, but it is spot-on for a celebration or a treat out.

thanks, but I’m on Riot Act hoping to read more comments from someone who dined there recently and said it was good.

Tell us more, what sort of food do they serve, how much is it and what did you have?

+1. First tried the restaurant in July this year, and glad to hear that they are continuing to provide a quality dining experience. Last night, I was dragged to a certain Italian restaurant-cum-bar in Dickson for a birthday dinner, and while the company was great, the service was rude and slow, the portions amazingly inconsistent in size, and the price was no cheaper….. Places in Canberra like The Artisan deserve our custom.
