Lundy's closed sign

I had an appointment with the Law Society this morning at 10am. As I walked into the building I noticed Kate Lundy’s office was still not open. The lights were off (nothing unusual about that with the ALP), the blinds were shut and the morning newspapers were still wrapped in plastic at the front door.

I remembered attending another meeting with the Law Society a few months ago on a work day and there was a notice on Lundy’s door, saying “Office closed for the day”.

On the other side of town I walk past the bearded-one’s office, aka Humphries, every morning, and I notice they are always opened for business around 8.30am.

It says a lot about Labor’s interest in Canberra.

No wonder’s there are rumours she is going to get rolled!

Thumper: Don’t forget it works the other way as well. Since the ACT is safe Labor territory you can be sure that the Federal Government ignores it at every possible opportunity.

eg. we have pretty much the lowest bulk-billing rates in the country, yet the Federal Government didn’t want to provide additional Medicare rebates for concession card holders in the ACT — it took more than 3 months of public outrage for them to change their mind.

In my experience, the local members in the ACT try pretty hard to get good results for their community in a difficult environment. Certainly both the lower house members (Bob McMullan and Annette Ellis) get pretty good outcomes for local constituents and do the best they can on Federal matters.

In reality, ACT senators are the exception rather than the rule. In the States, most senators are *far* less visible in the community. If you’re first on the ticket for a major party, Senators don’t even campaign — there’s a real attitude of “constituents? who?”

I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Humphries on a fw occasions and I must say he is one of the nicest people I have met.

If Lundy does get rolled, do you think she might open a cafe, “Lundy’s Lunch House” sounds good to me.

The bearded one’s not the most charasmatic politician but by all accounts he works his arse off.
