Hey there RiotACT,

I’m a media student looking for a location for my next film.

I don’t know much about nature parks in Canberra so I was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere green and nice looking!

Dont get into the Brindies much do you?

Not as much as I would like to, however nothing I’ve seen up there is as lush as the Parks nearer the coast, at least not in the easily accessible areas, which is probably something to keep in mind for a film maker.

Check out Lowden Forrest Park near Rossi, about 30mins drive from Queanbeyan

Another vote for Lowden Forest Park.

Lowden forrest park near Rossi is really nice, Has an old water wheel there that used to recharge the batteries of the old logging trucks way back in the day!!

Check it out: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/forests/locations/tallaganda

The old Lyndsey Prior arboretum is very lovely and lush now.

Lush and Canberra forests don’t really go all that well together. What type were you after? If it’s rainforests and you have a bit of money the National Botanic Gardens are ok. Else there are a few in the national parks on the way to the coast just past Braidwood.

Botanic Gardens on the side of Black Mountain, if your film doesn’t need distance shots … very lush artificial rainforest gully.

Kowen forest is certainly dense, maybe not lush (although there are a few nice green glades in it).

It was filled with red and white toad stools a few weeks back, like something out of a fairy tale.

Haig park is pretty lush right now. the old arboreta around Yarramundi reach is very nice. also Weston park and the Yarralumla nursery.

I’d pick a place that looks good over all and suits the scenes and worry about colour more in post – specifically colour grading.
