ACT Policing has charged a 49-year-old Lyons woman with theft after a search warrant was executed on her residence yesterday.

After Criminal Investigations detectives executed the warrant on her home, they found an estimated $800,000 worth of suspected stolen property stacked throughout the house. Amongst the property located were numerous DVDs and books which have been confirmed as belonging to Libraries ACT.

A full assessment of the property found within the house will be made by police over the next few days.

The woman, who was arrested around 6pm last night and held in the ACT Watch House overnight, will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Tuesday, July 5).

Now I know what happened to my library reservation that went missing.

What the hell is that all about? It seems to me that this has to be a result of some sort of disorder. A “normal” crim would simply dispose of the goodies for cash, not live in such impossible circumstances.

There sure are some wacky people out there.

No wonder there are so many items missing when I try to borrow them from the library. This is stealing from the public.
