Macquarie, a quiet achiever but one to watch

A quiet achiever works away in the background while everyone else makes a lot of noise. This sums up Macquarie perfectly – humble, well rounded and all kinds of awesome.

Macquarie has been a focus of mine for over 12 months and has rapidly become a firm favourite. I’ve seen a number of strong, consecutive sales highlighting the popularity of the area and momentum is gathering.

It’s no wonder Macquarie is in demand. With established homes on large blocks, Macquarie has plenty of green space for families – big and small – to enjoy. There are great little local shops and the nearby Jamison centre has pretty much everything you’d ever need, right at your fingertips. Macquarie also has a good selection of sought-after local schools, making it an excellent choice for families.

As seasons pass and markets shift, I have the opportunity to notice emerging trends long before they make breaking news. In the current market, where to buy property is just as important as what to buy. While good bones are vital, securing your investment in an up-and-coming area will undoubtedly reap investment rewards.

Despite relatively cooler overall market conditions in Canberra, prices continue to grow in Macquarie, rewarding perspicacious buyers in the long-term. Those in the know are tapping into the benefits of accelerated growth in the area – a combined result of recent knockdown rebuilds and the suburb’s central location.

Existing residents are choosing to stay put. Generous blocks can often accommodate extensions and renovations, making it a great place to plant firm roots and watch your family (and investment) grow.

With its community feel, established trees and friendly atmosphere, Macquarie is trailblazing an inner-north vibe with a property market to follow.

Long-term residents, Caroline and Joe, have lived in Macquarie for 14 years. They moved in when their daughter Myah was just 7 months old. They now have two children, both grew up in Macquarie and attended the local primary school.

“It’s a lovely community. We love that the kids have been able to walk themselves to school each day,” Joe says.

“In our time, we’ve renovated and are now about to extend. The community is one of the main reasons we’ve decided to stay. We know all our neighbours and look after each other’s homes when people go on holiday – it’s a beautiful street.”

“The location is fantastic. We are so close to Civic, and it’s easy to get anywhere. That being said, everything we need is right here!”

The convenience and warmth of living in Macquarie is a huge drawcard. There are a few suburbs that offer a (relatively) affordable foothold into the sought-after Inner Belconnen district.

Belconnen is my jam. There’s already so much to love. While some of my other favourite Inner Belconnen suburbs, Aranda and Cook, have established themselves in the property market and grow in profile, Macquarie often flies under the radar. But it won’t be for long, because this quiet achiever is generating some pretty incredible results.

As Canberra continues to expand and Inner Belconnen becomes more central, the relatively unassuming suburb of Macquarie will be the one to watch.

Macquarie is as handy as Aranda without the pretensions. Great suburb!
