The Canberra Times has amusing court news as one Brittney Belle Fairbairn (19) has gamely requested of the Magistrates Court that she get weekend detention for her six counts of of unregistered driving.

The appeal of the weekend detention is it would let her spend more time with her thieving boyfriend who is already doing weekend porridge.

Brittney’s previous boyfriend we hear is an alleged burglar and car thief which prompted Magistrate Karen Fryar to make the unusual sentencing offer of dating advice:

‘Quite frankly, firstly, your choice of partners is only going to get you more trouble with the law,” Magistrate Karen Fryar told Fairbairn…

Ms Fryar criticised the defendant’s decision to push for weekend jail ”simply because some stupid boy is a criminal, and he is there already”.

On top of 160 hours of community service and a six month suspended sentence Magistrate Fryar has recommended cognitive skills and assertiveness programs.

Who would have thought there were courses for not being a bloody idiot? Anyone know if they’re any good?

160 hours of community service and a six month suspended sentence for 6 counts of unregistered driving. I got 6 months jail for 1 count of unregistered driving 20 years ago. Magistrates are suckholes now days.

WTF? I also went unregistered & uninsured, once, 20 years ago, here in the ACT. Went to court, got a $300 fine ($150 each; still adds up to nearer a grand in today’s $$, I guess) and a stern finger-wagging.
Have you told the whole story?

She went to a Catholic School… which makes all of this totally unsurprising.
Regardless of the denomination, the number of kids who go to religious schools then go off the tracks as soon as they leave is staggering. Would seem to confirm that notion of pampered private school kids not coping in the real world.

One girl I know at Uni went to a local Anglican school up until Uni. Fantastic potential but she’s floundering now without the shackles of private school. She hooked up with a total dead beat, whose sole past times are drinking (not in pubs, just walking suburban streets drinking), trying to be a DJ and walking around the Canberra Centre on occasion with a giant novelty penis taking pics in the dressing rooms with it. Every post he makes on Facebook has the F or C word, often more than once.
It’s a common story though, almost stereotypical.

One girl I know at Uni went to a local Anglican school up until Uni. Fantastic potential but she’s floundering now without the shackles of private school. Feeling rebellious too so she’s hooked up with a dead beat whose two sole past times are drinking and walking suburban streets at 3am. His default response to someone posting a cool video on Facebook is “Sick video c***”. I know heaps more examples like this, there’s just something about the private school shackles coming off.

This is bull$hit. Utter bull$hit.

At the age of 19 she’s been busted for driving while unregistered on 6 occasions.

That doesn’t mean she’s done it 6 times, that means she’s been doing it continuously for years, and has been caught on 6 occasions.

If she crashed into you, you would be in a world of hurt because as she’s unregistered she’s also uninsured.

This little piece of $hit is a deliberate recidivist involved in a string of serious offences. She should be in the slammer, regardless of what her sad little scrawny arse looks like.

Sad to see a nice girl wasting her life on doing stupid things with stupid guys.

I bet you wouldn’t be saying that if she was….mmmmm….less aesthetically pleasing to put it nicely.

I’ll bet Merici College are really proud of this one.

But I thought private schools kept out the riff-raff? Isn’t that why our public schools are no-go zones?

Obviously the boyfriend went to public school. And now he’s leading this poor innocent flower into trouble with the law, such a shame.

Nice arse!

‘Find a guy who calls u beautiful instead of hot, who calls u back wen u hang up on him, who will lie under da stars n listen 2 ur heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep… wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off’

Nice to have an ambition…

Find a chick who can spell…

I’ll bet Merici College are really proud of this one.

I wholeheartedly agree with Ms Fryar, but I think it’s too late – if she’s reached 19 without falling into any cognitive skills, it’s probably a bit late now.

Judging by the number of bloody idiots around, I’d say they’re singularly ineffective.

Assertiveness program? The last thing we need is someone with an obvious disregard for the law being more empowered and assertive. Public humiliation would be more the trick, bring back the pillory.

This has my vote!

Assertiveness training? With any luck it will help her to tell her loser boyfriend to get lost.

Sir Humphrey: “You know what happens: nice young lady comes up to you. Obviously you want to create a good impression, you don’t want to look a fool, do you? So she starts asking you some questions: Mr. Woolley, are you worried about the number of young people without jobs?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Are you worried about the rise in crime among teenagers?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Do you think there is a lack of discipline in our Comprehensive schools?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Do you think young people welcome some authority and leadership in their lives?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Do you think they respond to a challenge?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Would you be in favour of reintroducing National Service?”
Bernard Woolley: “Oh…well, I suppose I might be.”
Sir Humphrey: “Yes or no?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Of course you would, Bernard. After all you told you can’t say no to that. So they don’t mention the first five questions and they publish the last one.”
Bernard Woolley: “Is that really what they do?”
Sir Humphrey: “Well, not the reputable ones no, but there aren’t many of those. So alternatively the young lady can get the opposite result.”
Bernard Woolley: “How?”
Sir Humphrey: “Mr. Woolley, are you worried about the danger of war?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Are you worried about the growth of armaments?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Do you think there is a danger in giving young people guns and teaching them how to kill?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Do you think it is wrong to force people to take up arms against their will?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “Would you oppose the reintroduction of National Service?”
Bernard Woolley: “Yes”
Sir Humphrey: “There you are, you see Bernard. The perfect balanced sample.”

First decent sentence to come out of an ACT court in a very very long time.

Next step is to bring back mandatory conscription.
