Simon Corbell has announced the retirement of Magistrate Shane Madden.

    “”Magistrate Madden will be admired for his many years of ongoing service to the ACT Court system, but he will be particularly remembered for his services to the youth and the indigenous community,” Mr Corbell said.

    Some of the highlights of his career as a Magistrate include:

    — Acting as the first children’s court magistrate from December 1999 to February 2002, a position in which he took great pride;
    — Presiding over the Ngambra Circle Sentencing Court and,
    — Sitting as a Coroner in the hospital implosion inquiry

Magistrate Madden’s last day will be on 30 June, 2009. Just watch the legal eagle’s circling to claim his seat.

I thought of Bill for some reason too ….

Magistrate I think you’ll find

Despite the fact the Justice has been on long service leave for many months and will remain on leave until his last day. Now for Justice Stefaniak perhaps?

I remember the Ngambra Circle affair…it was just before the Penge Bungalow murder…

A sad day for the administration of justice in the ACT. Shane Madden was a decent man with deeply felt personal convictions. I was fortunate to have met him on many occasions in his role as children’s court magistrate.
