ACT Policing has arrested a 21-year-old Duffy man following a pursuit early this morning (Saturday, February 16).

Around 2:20am police observed a vehicle that was travelling at high speed along Dixon Drive, Duffy, turning left onto Warragamba Avenue, Duffy.

Police activated the emergency lights and siren, but the red Mitsubishi Magna sedan failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The vehicle travelled through several streets in Duffy at speeds up to 89km/h before crossing into Rivett where the vehicle mounted a kerb on Darwinia Terrace. The vehicle slid sideways down a steep underpass embankment where it came to rest.

The driver of the vehicle ran along a foot path and was apprehended by police adjacent to Toona Place, Rivett. A small amount of white clear crystals suspected to be Methamphetamine was located on the man.

Police took the driver into custody and conveyed him to the ACT Watch House. The red Mitsubishi Magna sedan was seized by police.

He was charged with one count of failing to stop, one of furious/ reckless/dangerous driving, one of driving while disqualified and one of possession of drug of dependence.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police identified seven passengers in the vehicle, one of whom was in the boot of the vehicle.

So is that 7 passengers plus a driver? Either way trying to haul around a clown-car as a getaway vehicle was never going to end in success. Thankfully it seems no one was (seriously?) injured.

I mean I once got 9 people in a Honda Civic back from the Cotter, but there’s no way I’d try my luck trying to leadfoot it away from plod (Even if it was just me in the thing).

Do drivers here get hit for failing to stop and then having to be pursued. In NSW they cop a heavy hit.

Should be a mandatory prison term for fleeing the police in a motor vehicle, I reckon. The very act of trying to out-run police on public streets demonstrates a selfish recklessness deserving of a short stay in the clink.

Impressive effort! Hahaha!

A police pursuit, car crashes, driver bolts from the scene, just another day in Canberra nothing to see here move along. Oh but wait it’s not a commodore now that’s new!

Seven ! how lucky were they. The gene pool continues with its ups and downs.
