For those so inclined I thought I’d post the following email I received today.

Apologies to those who received 1/2 an email – we’ll just say that Macs and I don’t agree…

anyway, many of you will know that I’m working on the Make Poverty History campaign with ACFID. There are a few events coming up that it would be great if you could attend and drag along some friends.

On this saturday (3 Sept) at 3pm at new Parliament House on the lawns we are doing a photo launch with the help of the Canberra Times – they are taking an arial shot (potentially in a hellicopter) of about 100 people all WHITE lying on the grass spelling out MAKE POVERTY HISTORY. If you’re keen for the ensuing fame and fortune of being in the Canberra Times and can be in all WHITE on the day please let me know (0403769539 or by email is cool)

On the 5th of September for those of you of the Christian persuasion (or just really like to watch stuff burn) there is a candle light vigil organised by Micah (Christian coalition of NGOs). If you feel no particular inclination toward religion (or do but towards a differnt religion, such as the lovely Jewish community of Canberra – wink wink [Name Deleted]) please come anyway – there is fire, and a chance to make a political statement. (Can i ask those of you involved in Youth Groups to pass this message on – ta)

Then the big one is 10 Sept – the next White Band Day – a national event. Canberra volunteers are organising an event at Gareema Place – its FREE. There is a family focus on the arvo with clowns and face-painting, then bands in the evening. Civic is very central and you have no excuse not to come – come for a bit and then have coffee or something if need be.

So yep – in conclusion – Karma people, Karma. Its good for the soul to do something for others for a change – plus did i mention its FREE – i want you time not your money. The campaign is about raising awareness not cash. Its about getting people talking about the Millennium Development Goals (google them) and gettting to Government to cough up what they promised they would.

See you all there (or there’ll be trouble)

I’m a realist.

You will never eliminate poverty.

Good onya for trying though. All I could be arsed doing in sponsoring a child through World Vision. maybe my $ should stay in this coutry – sponsor an under priviliged kid? I would…

Realistically, not much else any of us can do. these things don’t achieve much.

Good luck though. Sigh, I’m such an old cynic these days…..
