Maker Meetup!

Australians have always loved fiddling in their sheds (if only as an excuse to get away from the wife), but now Maker culture is a growing way to be a bit more sociable about it, and learn from the experience of others.

Canberra’s Maker space, Make Hack Void in Downer has a meetup coming up where you can get a feel for things as enjoying the talks:

I hope you can make it to the next MHV meetup at 6:30pm on Tuesday 20th August. Everyone is welcome and the evening is free for members and non-members.

To keep the flow going, I’m moving the questions to after of all the talks. Each lighting talk can be up to 5 minutes, you can use less time if you want, but not more. There will be a timer app running so you can easily see how much time you have left, and get a 30 second warning before the end.

The idea of lightning talks is to give a quick description or demo of the most interesting aspects what you are working on. We all like to hear about the exciting things that people are working on, or news that is of interest. If people want to know more, they can talk to you after the formal part of the meeting. Remember with a lightning talk the idea is to get across one or two important points, not to cover a whole project.

If you have something that needs more than 5 minutes to present, please email me. I think it would be interesting to have a mix of lightning talks and a longer, prepared talk.

If you have something to talk about, reply here, email me or put your name on the whiteboard near the front when you arrive in the space.

We also order pizza, if you would like a share in half a large pizza from Crust, please bring along $11.

Please note that since the space is an active workshop, enclosed footwear is required.

For directions to get to MHV, see: http://www.makehackvoid.com/community/our-space

Contact me if you have any questions or would like some help with your talk idea.

‘Australians have always loved fiddling in their sheds (if only as an excuse to get away from the wife)…’

Didn’t you write that? That’s what this is all about!

Poor johnboy. You really need to get out more.

Using ancient comedy *and* sucking up. Excellent work.

‘Poor Johnboy’ can cope with criticism.

I’m really not sure how I got dragged into this anyway

do the female makers bring their wives too?

So I take it that married women aren’t allowed to go?

To be trolled or not to be trolled, that is the question…

Hopefully it isn’t trolling to surmise that it’s likely one partner having access to a shed can help keep a marriage alive.

There are plenty of female makers, poetix.

So I take it that married women aren’t allowed to go?

To be trolled or not to be trolled, that is the question…
