It seems to have missed everyone that on the 19th of December Jamie Briggs announced the appointment of Malcolm Snow to be Chief Executive of the NCA:

I am pleased to announce that Mr Malcolm Snow has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the National Capital Authority (NCA)—Canberra’s key agency for planning and development of the capital’s cultural and political heart.

Mr Snow’s background as an accomplished senior executive with experience in business and project management, urban planning, design and land development in both the private and public sectors means he is ably positioned to lead the NCA in the Chief Executive role.

Mr Snow has worked with and been a member of statutory and commercial boards and has extensive CEO experience, including a seven year period as CEO of South Bank Corporation in Brisbane. He has also held senior positions at national consulting firm Urbis and the Victorian Urban Renewal Authority.

A previous adviser to city, state and national governments on urban planning, design and placemaking, Mr Snow’s experience will assist him to address and deliver the NCA functions of accommodating the Seat of Government and developing an appreciation of the capital.

This would appear, based on his experience, to be a move to create a city within a city on the NCA administered land.

Hopefully he will do something about moving on the bunch of vagrants camping opposite Old Parliament House.

I expect he plans to build houses on Mt Ainslie – he was probably one of the cohort who originally planned to do so. F*ck off, Malcolm Snow!

I still get a bit tangled about the role of the NCA. I thought it was just for the parly triangle, but then it still influences what goes on out in the burbs. Like Yarralumla was in the news recently as the NCA stepped in about some bloody thing. ( I do apologise to the Yarra rioters for calling Yarra “out in the burbs’ but you know what I mean )

And was also told it is the reason the mountains/ridges in this place can’t be built on , the so called bush capital look . But if some rich dudes wish to pay a squillion for a some mountain land, let er rip. More dough in the coffers… Self guvy gave us so much, but not the lot it seems .

“This would appear, based on his experience, to be a move to create a city within a city on the NCA administered land.” – which could be very entertaining, indeed, and might put the parking meters in the Triangle issue into a most interesting perspective.
