Man caught DUI ten times over the limit

By Thumper - 15 January 2008 40

When I first heard this on the news I thought to myself, ‘ten times, he must be dead’. Then I heard that he was a P plater, thus the legal limit is 0.02, which is actually quite a piddling little reading.

And being a P plater I naturally assumed it was some randon young bloke.

However this idiot was 38 years old and was observed in his silver Toyota Starlet swerving across a street in Canberra’s inner south.

Police allege his breath test reading was 0.217.

Welcome to life without a licence for the next couple of years.

What’s Your opinion?

Yeah, and I could have read it better. 😉

Thumper 10:48 am 15 Jan 08

I probably could have written it a little better…

fnaah 10:43 am 15 Jan 08

Ah, touché. My mistake.

Thumper 10:41 am 15 Jan 08

Should I add that most P-platers are generally youngsters.

Cheers 🙂

Thumper 10:38 am 15 Jan 08

No, I heard ‘P-plate’ and expected it to be a young bloke.

See here

And being a P plater I naturally assumed it was some randon young bloke

Rather self explanatory i would have thought.

er… that should be “counterpoint”, not “corollary”.

Yes, my inner pedant is definitely awake!

fnaah 10:35 am 15 Jan 08

… doh.

I only made my point as a corollary to the implication made when you stated “… naturally assumed it was some random young bloke, however this idiot was 38”.

To me, that sounds like you assume either that all young people are *expected* to be idiots, or that all old people are expected not to be, as you were suprised by hte idiotic behaviour of a 38-year-old.

… or perhaps I’m just being overly pedantic today. 😉

I agree that drink drivers are idiots.

I only made my point a

Thumper 10:29 am 15 Jan 08

But all drink drivers are…

so your point is?

fnaah 10:26 am 15 Jan 08

Thumper:

1. Not all idiots are young
2. Not all the young are idiots

kthxbye

A CANBERRA P-plate driver has been charged with drink-driving at more than 10 times the legal limit.

I guess I can only report what I read.

So maybe you should also read?

Thumper 9:37 am 15 Jan 08

Ah, smack.

I said that 0.02 is piddling.

0.217 is idiotic, which is what I wrote.

Whatever, hope he’s gone for a long time.

smack 9:32 am 15 Jan 08

should read “would you”

smack 9:31 am 15 Jan 08

He wasnt a ‘P’ plater (meaning provisional) he held a probationary driver’s licence. Generally a probationary licence is given by the court. So this may not be his first time drink driving or he has been in trouble for other driving matters.

.217 is not a piddling reading! Who you get in the car if you knew the driver was .217?

It wasn’t the fact that he was swerving that made it look suspicious, its the fact that a grown man was driving a Toyota Starlet.
