Man charged with eight offences after alleged stabbing and carjacking in Belconnen car park

A 26-year-old man was arrested yesterday (24 September) after an alleged carjacking in the multi-storey car park of a Belconnen shopping centre.

A woman was allegedly stabbed during the incident.

The man has been charged with eight offences and is due to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today.

It is alleged the man stole a white Mazda 4WD utility after stabbing a woman in the arm. She was later transported to hospital. Police responded to reports of the incident at 11:30 am before the vehicle was identified in Braddon.

At 11:50 am, the suspect was arrested following a short foot pursuit in Ainslie.

Police have charged the man with aggravated robbery, intentionally wounding a person, knife possession, two counts of failing to stop for police, two counts of dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or may have dash-cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting ACT reference number 7546367.
