A 36-year-old man has been taken into custody this afternoon following the murder of a man in Fairfield East, New South Wales, in December last year.

New South Wales police made a formal request for assistance from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations after reports the man was residing in the ACT.

Detectives located the man at an address in Phillip where he was taken into custody.

He was due to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday) where NSW detectives will seek his extradition.
