Manuka on the up and up?

I fondly remember going to Manuka back in the early 90’s for family lunches and dinners , it was a great place to take visiting friends and relatives and it left a lasting impression.

Back then it was a destination however as the years passed and development demolished, and loud rnb clubs gave the main strip a bad name, it lost its appeal.

However there is a ray of light, with word of lots of new developments happening:

All this activity could assist in once again making Manuka a destination for Canberra.

Cream is not opening at the Verve site. It was in the process but they chose Urban Pantry instead. though it will be closing next year and reopening as something new. Pangea site is owned once again by John Harrington and is called Charlie Black not Manuka Bar.

Interesting that Cream is supposedly going to replace Verve. The owners of Cream just opened Urban Pantry, which is not too bad. Certainly miles better than Tryst. That location seems to be a bit of a graveyard for cafes though with a seemingly high turnover of businesses.

I took some visiting family members to Manuka on a Sunday, once. It was full of posing wankers, so we left.

Nightclubs hardly give a place a bad name. Nightclubs have/had (any left??) been in manuka for well over as long as I can recall and they have helped make it was it is today. All the talk of noise complaints from City venues just didn’t happen in Manuka. But of course, a good bakery is where all the cool Narrabundah kids are at these days….

p.s. Manuka is great, I like it. But a million restaurants/shops doesn’t create culture.

RE Manuka, well they did the, street racing , fights in the street kind of turned people away.
RE ps… What will then, let me know? Good restaurants do create a destination though 🙂 ?
