Also, for reasons probably best left unexplained, the first GWS game to be played in Canberra each year will be for the “honour” of the Prime Minister’s Cup.

Sounds like most PMs in recent history.. the only time you’ll find them in Canberra is if theres a footy match or a PMs cricket match on..

Maybe she was hoping the announcement would distract people from the Thompson/Slipper issue.

My apologies for the poor grammar and spelling mistakes in my previous post. Self-flagellation will begin in 3, 2, 1…

stated the the promised Manuka Lights will go ahead, and will take the form of the famous Canberra public artworks.

“The synergies are apparent for all to see”, Senator Lundy stated, “and the Chief Minister, Jon Stan… umm, sorry, Katy Gallagher, has agreed that it makes sense.”

It is believed that as part of the deal, the lights will take four different forms. Clockwise, from the northeastern section of the grounds:
– Light one (NE) will take the shape of a lighthouse, thereby showing the links between the ACT and it’s former coastal territory at Jervis Bay. Realistic in design, it will be duplicate of the Point Perpendicular lighthouse, including it’s illuminating features.
– Light two (SE) will take the shape of a land slide, representing the continual dangers faced by Canberrans during their regular migrations to our coast. Somewhat surrealistic in design, the light will be in the form of of a weaving trail of car headlights.
– Light three (SW) will be constructed as a bonfire. It will be lit ceremonially by a celebrated Canberran, as decided by the Chief Minister. This light will act as a reminder of the 2003 bushfires, where our beloved leader demonstrated his abilities under pressure.
– Light four (NW) will be a localised version of the Colussos of Rhodes, in the image of the ACT’s greatest Chief Minister and visionary, Jon Stanhope. This corner will have him facing both towards and away from the ground, spreading his benevolence over all. In a nod to party to which Mr Stanhope belonged, the light will be intermittent and predominatly red in colour.

Steve Doszpot, the Shadow Minister for Sport & Recreation immediately condemned the announcement as an extravagance the ACT do not afford, particularly as he has no real interest in cricket or Australian football.

Zed Seselja called the media release short sighted and shy on facts. When told he was talking about the release by Mr Doszpot, he recanted and announced that he would check with Alistair Coe, Vicki Dunne, Jeremy Hanson, and Brendan Smyth before deciding on who’s turn it was too look like a goose.

Meredith Hunter, leader of the ACT Greens, applauded the improvement in line with the public art works, but suggested they be moved outside of Manuka Oval, thus allowing their enjoyment by the greater public. The lights will be changed to a combination of CFLs and LEDs, with power generated on demand from a solar array to be built in an undisclosed location. When reminded that the lights will need to run when the sun isn’t available, Ms Hunter suggested that the media was simply fawning to big oil, and that the ACT Greens would push to have an environmental impact study performed to ensure that the Bogong moth was not affected. At this point, Amanda Bresnan and Caroline Le Couteur were noted to nod enthusiastically behind their leader, while Shane Rattenbury was seen to be discussing the plans in the back ground with two people wearing white coveralls.
