Margaret Reid left out in the cold as Zeddites go coitus interruptus

We’ve long suspected that part of the Zeddites’ cunning plans have been to *not* turn up to meetings where Pogos might get themselves some preselection rights on the basis that if there isn’t a quorum the meeting doesn’t count.

(Here in the bunker we are sticklers for Robert’s Rules of Order and consider anyone taken in by such a simple ruse to deserve what they get)

The Pogos, had they not been so pathetically complacent, should have seen this one coming months ago and mobilised long before nominations closed.

But as the jostling for a possible second bite at the cherry by the Pogos goes on we hear from a source that a Grand Old Lady of the Party has fallen casualty:

Zed’s Young Libs try last minute tactic to reduce voting rights.

The ACT Young Libs tonight abandoned (at the command of ????) their own meeting declaring it inquorate to outmanoeuvre members from the senior party to gain voting rights.

Sadly this brought about a casualty in Margaret Reid who was left outside the cancelled meeting after young Libs sent out the word by phone to pull out.

A sad day indeed. Zed’s dirty tricks campaign continues, one can only hope it is only a matter of time until he trips himself up.

When the first woman to be president of the Australian Senate is left out in the cold and the wet that’s one hell of a game of hardball.

How come Jesus didn’t warn Zed what would happen if he and his ‘young turks’ acted like a bunch of giant doucebags???

I think directing all the blame on some young Libs shenanigans is being a litte disingenuous.

None of this would have happened but for an inappropriate relationship between the leader of the parliamentary art and the president of the lay party. The sooner their constitution is amended to prohibit staffers being elected to the management committee the sooner issues such as this become redundant. An ethics clause wouldn’t go astry either.

Jesus wasn’t a conservative, despite his being claimed as one.

It is so very tedious to hear ontological arguments like “Well why didn’t God do blah?”, I agree with you totally Poetix.

Ontological arguments may be tedious, but I do love arguments that feature words like “ontological”. And “existential”…that’s a good one too. Like “Zed and Gazza represent existential threats to each others political careers.”

One of those guys is going to be left standing, and the other will be out of politics for good. And personally, I reckon Zed and his crew have disgraced themselves and generated such animosity within the Libs and the community as a whole that he’s gonna be hosed.

Well, tossers like Zed seem to listen to Jesus’ word when they need to make judgement calls on many other issues, so I thought that since Jesus was so wise he just might have given Zed better advice this time.

By god it’s satisfying watching this the Canbera Liberals implode all over again.
I’d previously rubbished Simon Sheik’s chances, but if this goes on and on and results in a badly damaged Zed as candidate with the Canberra liberals split and fighting amongst themselves all through the election, he might be in with a decent shot.

Anyway, I hope that everyone has remembered to fill out their time sheets correctly – this time!

Amidst all the skulduggery, shenanigans and entertaining hijinks are there any known policy differences between Senator Humphries and would-be Senator Sesselja – or is it just “time for a (generational) change” – i.e. I think it’s my turn?

Zed seems to have been caught flat footed by the attention this has gotten. He’s turning down all interview requests now.

LiberalTruth4:57 pm 01 Mar 13

Seriously Young Libs didn’t plan it very well. Their meeting was an hour before the Tuggeranong one. So nearly all of the pogos went to Tuggers, all except Margaret Reid who had another appointment to go too.

Gotta say Zed had his feathers ruffled a bit last night after he started on his holier than thou attitude with media and people had spoken to the media and were causing trouble. Sorry lets not forget the timesheet affair that he was responsible for and the amount of time that he kept the party in disrepute.

It was good to see that he is still standing up and saying ask me anything….. but when people do and he doesnt like the question he accuses them of being trouble makers. Didn’t work with the strong female members that were there last night, and they let him know in no uncertain circumstance that they have put him on notice that his bullying and intimidation tactics would no longer be put up with.

His bullies and thugs were outnumbered by normal people last night. There is a move at foot to stop staffers from being on management committee. Most Federal MP’s won’t allow their staffers to hold office or vote in party matters – something about conflict of interest or ethics or something Zed and his cronies don t understand , also in NSW family members cannot vote at pre selections.

Zeds dead baby Zeds dead.

Don’t you mean quorum interruptus for the headline?

These shenanigans are highly amusing to me. I love it when politicians show their true colours instead of the confected bullsh&t we get served up as our daily bread.

My call is that Bruce Willis has already picked the ultimate outcome for one politician’s career:

Every time I hear the words ‘Young Liberals’, I wonder just why anyone would waste their youth on doing such a thing. I can slightly get my head around why someone might choose to join ‘Young Labor’, perhaps seeming like more of a cause to the passionate and headstrong young, but all I envisage when I think about Young Liberals, especially in this town (and having known some), is an obsequious and supercilious person.

I will say once more that Jeremy Hanson needs to watch his back. Zed may not be plotting and scheming himself, but plenty of his supporters are and he needs to very quickly distance himself.

I’m at a loss at to what young libs do?

Object to unions? Plan takeovers of multi-nationals?

Seriously?

Hate the gays.

Difficulty: half are gay.

Arent they Zeds pawns?

Looks like their juvenille antics are helping to destroy the Canberra Liberals. Lets hope they dont look back on this filled with regret.

And the funniest thing is Zed is probably too stupid and lazy to realise just how much damage all of this bad publicity is doing him – on top of the free ride he’s trying to get out of the ACT taxpayers by not giving up his position in the legislative assembly.

A pox on all of them.

As an aside, many years ago I worked in the same Federal Government department as Gary Kent, chief pogophile. He is a man of short stature and had a tendency, as a junior ministerial staffer, to be quite demanding. He was known as The Little Kent.

A key thing here is Gary Kent is acting in the interests and the integrity of the party. He has said all along that he is supprting neither Zed or Gary and this is evidenced from what ive heard from him on the radio. Why should he stand by and watch the party succumb to one persons sneaky selfish ambitions. I am a liberal voter but not a member of the liberal party am comforted that there are still people like Gary Kent in the party.

Gary Kent is well-known in the Party to NOT be a Gary Humphries supporter. Nor a Zed supporter. He’s a stickler for the rules and does not even work for anyone in the Assembly. He gets nothing from all these effort but satisfaction that the Party is being run fairly and correctly.

BAAAHAAAA

You’re new to the Canberra Liberals aren’t you?

Mulcahy anyone?

Lots of cheap shots, but quite amusing. Keep ’em coming!

It was quite clear that the Young Liberals were deliberately throwing their own meeting in, so as to be inquorate and not count for voting eligibility.

A huge number of YLs instead attended the SEB meeting, instead of their own meeting – it’s quite obvious that they have been instructed by Tio and the Management Committee to throw the meeting. Fortunately some members were able to then race off to the SEB meeting, as it started 30 minutes after YL was declared inquorate.

YL are playing games in the hopes of capturing cushy jobs with MLAs and perhaps even a Senator. They are playing uni politics in the big leagues of real politics. The vast majority of the Party are tremendous people who believe strongly in the Liberal message and will volunteer, wear out shoe leather, donate money and donate their time. A very small fraction of the Party use it as a vehicle for their own careers.

The Party is being taken back. Last night was just the beginning. The YL (aka Hitler Youth) will not rule our Party.

So apparently Young Liberals are about political games, rather than doing anything for the people that vote for their candidates.

Between this and the Liberal MLA’s no show for the unveiling of Sir Robert Menzies lakeside sculpture one begins to wonder what a Canberra Liberal is.

Had it been a statue of Ayn Rand, the outcome may have been somewhat different.

So far as I know, I’ve not had the pleasure of encountering a practising (or indeed, perfect) Young Liberal – so perhaps a well-informed Rioter might be able to provide a pithy pen picture of a typical Young Lib. JB has kicked us off with a particularly juicy title for this thread, so don’t hold back.

Now that’s cheeky.

Interesting to note that the Party has not really that long ago recovered from Gary Kent’s diobolical tenure as Party President. Now he’s Mr Moderate? Do leopards change their spots?

Because it comes down to a group of people that have the attitude of “Got mine, Flap you.”

Pulling quorum when they had a guest speaker? seriously?

Why the excitement ?

All ACT senators have been time serving plodders only useful for openining school fetes. They whine when in opposition & never stand up for the ACT when in power.

Humphrey Bear or Dr Z its all the same.

None of these tactics are new to the Canberra Liberals, nor moreover to political party’s more generally.

My mail is Zed is f@!#$ed. His strategy will backfire and he’ll be looking for a new gig come next ACT election because the people of Tuggers will chuck him out.

His next adventure will most likely be a tome called ‘Zed Seselja – How to go from hero to zero quicker than Oscar Pistorius’.

Underhanded and disappointing. Much like knifing your leader in the back over a mining tax. It’s looking more and more like both sides of politics are shades of the same hue.

I find it amusing that the seemingly older and more experienced members have been completely out-manoeuvred by these young upstarts.

If you’re gonna play the game boy, you’ve gotta learn to play it right.

One has to ask why was Margaret Reid attending a Young Liberals meeting in the first place and why didn’t she then attend the Tuggereanong meeting as most of the ones at the abandonded Young Liberals did?

Funny if it goes to court and the decision is reserved until after the election…

What happened to ‘may the best man (person!) win’? It’s not that hard of a concept, surely? The canberra libs are looking worse by the day!

What a charming lot those young libs are.

A liberal insider I sent this story to replied in four letters beginning with s.

It’s going nuclear now.

Between this and the Liberal MLA’s no show for the unveiling of Sir Robert Menzies lakeside sculpture one begins to wonder what a Canberra Liberal is.
