Marital Status Stats

Looking into the 2006 Census stats on relationships reveals some interesting facts.

Three males aged 15-19 in Canberra are married and another 79 are in defacto relationships. On the other side of the ledger, 34 females aged 15-19 in Canberra are married and another 224 are in defactos.

This trend of more females in relationships than males for a given age group continues through the age groups until above 55 years where there are more males in relationships than females.

So it would appear that Canberran men prefer to marry younger women.

“So it would appear that Canberran men prefer to marry younger women.”

Not necessarily; it could be that ACT men like older women, except men over 55 years old, who are marring 15-19 year olds.

I don’t trust married people. It just seems a little simple minded.

Introduced random error was the term I was looking for.

maybe they were 18 or 19 year olds ?
maybe they filled out the census dodgily ?

I think (or thought) there are confidentiality measures in place such that you’d never know there were 3 15-19 year married males in Canberra. Of if that’s what is reported, it’s been randomly re-jiggered just enough to protect confidentiality…
