Mark Higgs to return to canberra

By Thumper 21 August 2006 13

The woefully inadequate ACT Cricket site is reporting that, ‘Mark Higgs is set to make a return to Canberra in the up and coming 2006/07 season. The hard hitting middle order batsman and left arm orthodox slow bowler who has been playing for the South Australian Redbacks is set to play for his beloved Queanbeyan club. The ACT Comets are looking forward to having an experienced first class player in their squad as they look to capitalise on their successful 2005/06 season.’

Higgs previously played for the Comets, New South Wales, South Australia, Lincolnshire and Australia.

I’ll make a trip out to see him bat when Ginninderra players Qbyn…

Besides, the Tiges have some gun players this year…

Haha. There’s an awful lot of pie wrappers blowing around on our cricket ovals…

Thumper 8:34 am 20 Sep 06

I haven’t noticed a pie shortage in the ACT?

Is there a pie shortage?

terubo 7:59 am 20 Sep 06

Well I do know it’s harder to find pies, so he must be around – possibly in training.

Any news on how he’s doing? Also, an information update: Higgs played a friendly for Australia against England

GWBCC starts training this weekend at Kippax. I’ll post more details later.

Sounds like he’s bang on target to be an umpire when his pie-chucking days are over.

He was in the touring squad to Kenya and I think the drink stocks are more in danger than the pie stocks!

terubo 4:10 pm 24 Aug 06

And when he’s not eating ’em, he looks like he could throw ’em. Slow left-arm Chinaman-style.

Thumper 2:41 pm 24 Aug 06

Okay, he was in the touring squad to, ah, bangladesh or somewhere like that.

And yes, the pies could be in danger…

Cityboy 2:27 pm 24 Aug 06

judging by his picture it looks like Canberra pie stocks may be in danger when he returns. Also the bloke never played for Australia. He made one touring squad.

Let’s hope he’s not a ball-tamperer…
