Markets in and around Canberra

It is getting harder to get bargains on Ebay so I was wondering what markets there are in and around Canberra where you can pick up well-priced (secondhand) items such as clothing, LP records, furniture etc. and enjoy the outside autumn air. Any suggestions?

Gorman House Markets – reaching the end of its lifecycle but still worth going for the Latin American and Ethiopian food.

Very high praise for Aussie Junk. It’s a million times neater since those ferals from Revolt got the ar5e. Picked up a brand new desk, a Lazer Tag gun for the sprog, a great cookbook and a rocker / see-saw thingy for $25. Apparently they also sell stuff on eBay.

Is it true that this Revolt is supposed to clear out of their new ‘premises’ today because they haven’t paid rent for the last three months? What a bunch of deadsh.ts.

Cant beat Aussie Junk out near Mugga Lane, if you spend a bit of time poking around and under racks great stuff can be found, I have found that Revolve isnt quite as good, alot of their stuff lies out in the weather. Im a student and have furnished my room and equiped my kitchen with clean attractive from Aussie Junk for only $40.00.

oops… missed a /

Text only adds on allclassifieds are completely free so any dubious descriptions can only be blamed on the sellers. Frankly I’ve had some fantastic bargains from allclassifieds in the last couple of years, but you do have to watch it like a hawk. Oh, and NEVER pay the price listed in the add.

The format change was just that, the terms and conditions didn’t change significantly. Incidentally, it seems they’ve changed the format yet again over the weekend – looks a lot like the old site.

The prices at Jamo Trash & Treasure are just ridiculous – too many ‘professional’ stall holders selling new-old stock crap. Quite a few scam artists too – you’ve gotta watch your back. Damn, now I feel like a doughnut…

I miss the council pickup days in Sydney.
But thanks, we’ll try those suggestions.

And you can tune into to 666 at 7am Sat mornings to listen to what School Fetes, Church Op-Shops and other one- off things are on each weekend.

As a regular marketeer… I would have to say the quality of stalls at Woden T&T has gone downhill, and I havent been back to Jamison in yearss – so I cant comment on them.

Most markets these days have mostly craft and brand new items. So i would recommend trawling through many garage sales looking for what you want.

Otherwise, for some locally made crafts, jewellery and tidbitss check out the following markets.

Hall Markets – 1st Sunday or every month (except Jan) 10-3pm
Kippax Markets – I believe every Saturday AFTER public service payweek 9-2pm
Tuggers Hyperdome – One Friday a month – near medicare, see the centre for more details.
Old Bus Depot markets – Every Sunday.
Bungendore Markets – Not sure – but i think the 2nd Sunday of every month.

Theres MANY MANY more…. I believe you can search on the ACT Communities online website… but the address changes constantly I cant remember what it is anymore.

Highly recommended: Local household garage sales, Jamo trash n’treasure markets and YMCA garage sales at Yarralumla (usually held a few times a year). Salvos at Fyshwick a fav.

Ebay is getting very expensive for buyers and sellers. Annoying that all payments will have to be made through the ebay owned Paypal from end of the month. Also suspicious that opposing bidders ids are hidden during auction. Looks like some sellers are arranging dummy bids to pump up prices. What a rip off.

Does anyone know…Is Revolve any good now they’ve moved from the tip? Are they still operating?

A couple of other options to trash and treasure maybe – Allclassifieds used to be really good until they changed the format last year and the descriptions are now useless – guess they are charging by the word now. Another option is if you have a friend with access to the DRN and can access the internal defence classifieds. Quite often freebies there. Great place to look during February MIMO. Most other government departments have classifieds on their intranets.

Trash and Treasure each Sunday morning at Jameison and Woden shopping centre car parks.
