Hey everyone this is my first post on Riotact. I just wanna give a big f***in wrap to the local legend known as Marty and his food van in Phillip. Just this last Friday me and the boys after a few drinks and a few cones drove on down to Martys to grab us all a top F***in feed.

People is there a more polite man in Canberra than Marty. To me and my mates Martys in simply the best takaway food you can get your hands on in Canberra, not to mention the man himself. Such a pleasent and happy bloke always serving his customers needs.

So for everyone in Canberra who has not yet enjoyed a good old lamb roll or chips & gravy head on down to Martys food van in Phillip.

Keep up the good work Marty

No. Died with all the public carparks in the city as part of stanhopeless’ no parking, anytime, anywhere strategy in the city.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – some of you were dim enough to vote for Stanhope. I heard all the resonings around the General Election too when people justified voting for Howard.

“It’s better the devil you know”. Or this little gem “he’s learned from his mistakes, he’s an experienced leader, where the new guy has no idea what he’s doing”.

Next!

Which reminds me, I got a parking ticket the other day. Seems the only way to get out of it is to drive (or not drive) a double decker bus. Looks like you can leave it in a public carpark for at least fifteen years with out a hint of a parking fine.

What corrupt/inept/farnarkled bit of the Chiefly lot is responsible here?

Meantime, I will pay the fine. And only grumble a bit….

We used to go there roughly once a week in 2001/02 when we were in uni (and going to insomnia 2 or 3 nights a week), but I finally grew out of the habit (and my pants!).

I went back there last year after Angus and Julia Stone, and he recognised me and remembered my order! I’m vegan now, so I couldn’t actually have it, but he was always so friendly and gave great customer service – one time the stand in guy got my order wrong, and when I told Marty about it on my next visit, he gave me my order for free.

I’ll give marty kudos never having eaten there, but for having to deal with morons like this every night.

Is there still a Dollies near Toad Hall and the site of the former Worker’s Club?

As they say, the best condiment is hunger – but in this case a few cones and a bad case of the munchies is the better condiment! Go back to eat there when you are sober and straight and tell us if the food is any good!!

I will admit to having been there while sober (designated driver when the drunks wanted something to eat ldo), and it was pretty good then as well. Although I am quite partial to a hamburger with the lot most of the time.

agree – dollies chips and gravy rocked on the walk home after a night in sunny civic. nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be no more…

Off topic a bit, but whenever anyone mentions Dollies I have flashbacks to many drunken nights that involved
a. ANU Bar and hot dogs from Dollies or
b. the Bin and those unbelievable Nacho’s from the Tampico Hut (that kept on giving :).

Now those were (alcohol induced) quality late night eating establishments!

Ahh bogans. I need to make a documentary called “When Dickheads Attack”.

Awesome post, and I also highly recommend Marty and his food.

Sometimes though, I’m ashamed to admit, I see other greasy caravans. I’ve been getting a bit on the side over at RJs in Woden…….. and Dollies in Mawson for when i’m filled with amber fluid and my standards have sunk considerably.

Marty’s is the one opposite Craig Hall Smash Repair (on Parramatta St, near Bellona Ct).
Having worked a great many night shifts nearby, his food isn’t too bad really.

But admitting to driving around while ripped is very poor form.

It didn’t say anything about driving there.
But geez this is a funny post.
Not at all written by the type of person I would suspect to be frequenting late night food vans..

Which food van is this – the one in the carpark at Woden or what?

Where are the food vans in Canberra and what hours do they keep?

No one said they didn’t have a designated driver. Nothing like a food van feed after a few to many lol.

Great Post!! A++++++ Would read again!!!

Clearly stupidity and boganity never, ever go out of fashion
