Keo reports that young Brumbie pivot Matt Toomua is playing out the end of South Africa’s Currie Cup with Western Province.

It’s sad that the lack of a quality club competition (thank you John O’Neil) means our young players have to head overseas to do their rugby apprenticeship.

On the other hand if it means we travel better when touring South Africa then I’m all for it!

“A much brighter prospect than any of the flyhalves that are playing for Sydney Uni or Randwick.”

Always handy if you know who’s playing before you say things like that. Halangahu at 10 for Uni and Timmy Walsh for Randwick.

And lets not forget, Canberra wasn’t a club side in the Sydney comp, it was a rep side. Australian Rugby is currently 2nd string

> Actually it means he’s just not good enough to make either Randwick or Sydney Uni 1st grade

Well…considering he plays for neither of those clubs, it was always going to be difficult for him to be part of that game!

He’s hardly a second or third string player….he’s a promising young player who’m I’m sure will go far.

& the Sydney comp IS second string….Sydney Uni have now won 5 in a row. Why? No competition. Perhaps they should let a decent team back in…like say, Canberra.

Toomua is a very talented player and will be important for the Brumbies in years to come.

A much brighter prospect than any of the flyhalves that are playing for Sydney Uni or Randwick.

I think it’s wrong to call him a 2nd or 3rd string player.

PS Toomua plays for Easts in the Shute Shield.

As any club side would struggle in a provincial competition. The Currie Cup isn’t something to lose it on your duds over though. The fact a 2nd or 3rd string Brumbies player walks into their side says something as well

Randwick and Sydney Uni would struggle in the Currie Cup.

I think he’s got it better at Western Province.

Actually it means he’s just not good enough to make either Randwick or Sydney Uni 1st grade, who played a quality GF today
