Just heard on the news that Maurizio “Morris” Rao has been charged with murder (as opposed to the possible manslaughter charge) over the stabbing outside the Cube nightclub, following the death of one of the combatants in hospital.

The jury’s verdict is going to be an interesting thing.

Well that’s a question his lawyer will no doubt address in court.

Let’s wait and see.

Regardless of whether it was self defence my question is; what is the manager of cube doing outside with a knife???
He claims to be a trained security guard, who trained him?????
The job of a security guard is to make patrons feel safe not to flex your biceps and use excessive force.

According to the ABC news, he’s back behind bars cause his bail has been refused, can anyone verify this?

Okay, I’m aware it’s probably going to come out in the case. I’m just asking that it doesn’t come out in the comments field.

Which it hasn’t so far, really. Thank goodness.

…I think. I’m not a lawyer.

JB, regarding the “as opposed to the possible manslaughter charge” – that’s true but when the charge is murder, the jury is automatically asked to consider both murder and manslaughter for their verdict.

Simto,

a) The gay thing for whatever reason will turn-up in court. It has been reported that the deceased was party to laying on homophobic comments.

b) I *know* a mate of the deceased that said the deceased was merely walking passed when he was taunted by racial slurs. I bet that will come out in court too.

You drew a very fine ass-aumption from my comment. Techy.

hows about just letting vacuous, annoying comments fly straight through to the keeper, so to speak?

Oh, god almighty. Can we get two groundrules locked in now?

1) Charging the owner of a gay nightclub with murder when he stabbed someone isn’t homophobic.

2) Acquitting him, should he be found to have been acting in self defence in stabbing an islander, isn’t racist.

I’m assuming this is going to wind up being a case of “is it self defence, or some reasonable variation therof, or isn’t it”. Which is complicated enough. Throwing racial and sexual preference garbage into it isn’t going to help anybody. So can we please, please, avoid it?

Interesting case, one tinged with homophobia and racial overtones.
