McGregor hall kicks on

I have been part of a musical organisation that has utilised McGregor Hall for the past 20years.

For the past 10years we have been given warning after warning that the place will be shut down, knocked down and we needed to look for other accommodation, which we eventually did at the beginning of this year with much difficulty and cost.
We are a non-profit organisation and are now paying 3 times more in rent than we ever had, for a location, that whilst is not located too close to housing (a big issue for us), is not quite what right for the acoustics.
There does not seem to be anywhere in the greater “central” Canberra for us to go.

I agree with Pandy that the ACT Government needs to do more in cultivating culture in the Capital and provide facilities such as McGregor Hall (or just reno the existing ones) rather than knocking them down.
But I suppose that goes against the sterile hospital image that the Government wants the ACT to be.

+1 to Pandy’s idea of a new and suitable facility.

The building is not that important. The cheap arts/community facilities for dancers and musos in the CBD is. Why can’t the Government provide a new facility say in Turner or O’conner that is run by a board of representative dance groups?
