Medical board inert and unresponsive

The ABC has a horror story of the silence of the medical board when it comes to acting against one of their own.

ACT health services commissioner Mary Durkin has raised concerns that a Canberra doctor is still treating patients despite more than 70 complaints being made against him.

After investigating the complaints in March last year, the commissioner – along with the ACT Medical Board – recommended that an emergency order be sought to stop the doctor from practising.

But 16 months later, the Medical Board is still yet to take the next step of applying for a legal order to suspend the man.

Commissioner Durkin is frustrated and concerned by the delay.

The website linked to from the ACT Health website appears to be unavailable too.

No surprises here. There is one rule for professionals & another for the rest of us.

Doctors & lawyers who stuff have processes that drag on for years then get a slap on the wrist with a feather duster by their professional bodies.

Exactly. the Howard governmnet, with Reith as the attack dog, tried to break the worker unions in this country.

But no government is willing to take on the most powerful unions of all, the AMA and the other professional bodies.

It’s about time the Dobermans were unleashed on these privileged unionists.

The state medical boards are now branches of a national board (this is quite new). Now the media’s got the story, maybe they’ll be moved to take action. I wonder what the doctor is doing that’s so bad?

I heard that, apart from being a total moron in any medical procedures, he is also sexually assaulting or harassing his clients/staff.

I heard about this a few weeks ago. I cannot believe that this MD is still allowed to practise and that he hasn’t been named or at the very least the public be protected.

We don’t even know what side of the city he is on.
