What makes an excellent meditation specialist?

Not quite sure what, exactly, you are looking for in a meditation specialist? No worries. We recommend looking out for the following must-have traits:

  • Years of experience. The best meditation specialists have years of experience – both practising meditation themselves and teaching meditation to their students.
  • Compassionate, understanding approach. Meditation can be difficult. As you learn to quiet your mind, you may experience feelings of vulnerability and discomfort – this is totally normal. An excellent meditation specialist will take a kind and compassionate approach.
  • Convenient time and place. Convenience is critical. If you are looking to join a weekly meditation, look for a studio or centre that’s close to your home or workplace.

Years ago I was in a meditation course with my sister at the ANU Sport Club and we really enjoyed it.You don’t need to be an ANU student to join. Not sure whether the guy still do the course there though now but you can definitely check that out.

Why do you need to be taught how to do nothing?

Join the public service instead, you’ll learn how, and get paid for it!

I’m like a barrel of monkeys me!

I’d look into some Qigong. I know there are a few places in Canberra that practice it. i.e. Firedragon Australia in Ainslie – ( and the Tai Chi Academy in Woden (

Try the Australian Labor National Secretariat, in the office end of Hotel Realm.

There’s a lot of soul searching happening there at the moment and sure could be with a bit of meditative peace and quiet.

I think they may do. I do know that they run ultra marathons and the like. Apparently that’s what meditation can do for you. Can’t say I felt that urge though!
