Last night Labor’s Meegan Fitzharris (Molonglo) exercised her right as a Lego donor to get us up to Gungahlin’s Siren Bar (where we were pleasantly surprised to find a passable jambalaya on the menu).

Meegan’s priorities included: Happy, Healthy, Connected, Learn, Prosper, Contribute, improving the Gungahlin main street and Linear Park, A huge healthcare facility, childcare, sandpits, a cinema for Gungahlin, a Youth Centre for Gungahlin, a very splendid swimming pool, the Gungahlin penal battalion, boating and footpaths around Yerrabee pond, and support for the Zoo.

But don’t take my word for it, she explains all in the video.

The next one is scheduled is Andrew Wall (Liberal for Brindabella) on 19 September at Duxton, but the calendar might yet fill out, we’ll keep you posted.

(Candidates who haven’t slotted themselves in are advised that there will be no candidate challenges after 28 September and we need a week’s notice, so they better get in quick, and should email john@the-riotact.com )

Here’s our nifty calendar, you the public are reminded that you’re very welcome to come along to these things:

Weston Creek has been asking for a pool and a library for the last 20 years, amoungst other things. I can assure you that we have also been lacking in resources. Leaving that aside, it should be noted that these candidates are not standing as candidates for Gunghalin, they are standing as candidates for Molonglo. Their policies should reflect that fact.

Creekgirl, I am hope you are actively involved in your local community council and have sent correspondence to the MLA’s on these very topics. Is was through the good work of the Gungahlin Community Council and residents involved that got us our leisure centre.

I agree that the candidates running should have policies based on their electorate and not on one section. I don’t think these Lego challenges should be taken all that seriously anyway.

True, except that it would be nice to have someone who has the interests of the area you live in at heart. Gungahlin is a town that hasn’t ever had a resident representing it to my knowledge.

problem is, there aren’t that many things that effect the whole electorate, if Weston creek was made less of a hole, all the other holes would start complaining. So she has clearly chosen to focus on the biggest hole first.

perhaps you can take some comfort in the knowledge that while Weston creek may need work, at least its not gungahlin.

My vision of Canberra includes a Molongolo candidate that realises that the Molongolo electorate includes more than Gunghalin. So far I have only heard one candidate mention Weston Creek directly, and the others lump the area in with the rest of Canberra. I’m sorry Meegan but someone who is so focussed on Gunghalin is not someone I would vote for.

This is exactly how we in Gungahlin have been feeling for years. It is good to see several Gungahlin residents running this election who will be able to help us get the due consideration we deserve.

Given the population density in gunners, and the undelivered previously promised services, it seems relatively fair to give it some attention. All ways seemed strange it wasn’t its own electorate.

LEARN PROSPER CONTRIBUTE is a tad Orwellian. And I must admit, as a voter in this electorate, I find the total lack of mention of the inner north slightly worrying. It’s like she never heard of it. Whereas I make Gungahlin jokes all the time.

The pool is indeed magnificent.
