One of the newest businesses to open in Weston Creek is Miss Moss Florals. A beautiful shopfront full of fresh blooms, indoor plants, terrariums, potted succulents, giftware and cards. It is quickly gaining a reputation amongst locals as the go-to place for special and memorable custom floral designs and bouquets.

Owner Melissa Moss says, “The business has only been open a month! Mother’s Day was completely out of control! Which was great!” She continued to say, “The Weston Creek Community has been extremely welcoming and we have already had enquiries regarding weddings and other events. We have also been honoured to have been asked to complete wreaths and other memorial work for the funerals of local residents.”

Melissa revealed that the opening of the store happened out of love and passion for flowers and all things green. From a very young age, she was fascinated with flowers, saying “Some say this led to the destruction of many a garden rose, but nonetheless, the love affair with flowers began early.”

“I grew up on a farm on the Murrumbidgee River, surrounded by my mother and grandmothers who were avid gardeners, so there was really no escape. Things could have been worse!”

“After a bit of travel and numerous occupations, I studied and worked in Horticulture which led me to work in some beautiful Canberra gardens and nurseries. Having completed qualifications in floristry and worked in the industry for a number of years, I think it is time to use some of the fantastic knowledge I have gathered to begin my own venture.

Miss Moss Florals evolved from an online presence to a shop front. The shop space (which I had had my eye on for some time ) became available around the same time as the florist in Cooleman Court closed so I decided to take the plunge.” Melissa gushed, adding, “The shop has this fantastic natural light.”

Through Miss Moss Florals, she aims to provide Canberra with a premium online flower delivery service. Where possible, sourcing materials from local growers, gardeners and farms, ensuring a fresh and long lasting result.

“We have fresh flowers shipped in from Sydney market at least two times a week. Our giftware and cards comprise of Australian and locally made products, though not exclusively, [but] it’s our aim to do this if we can.”

As for plans to expand, Melissa says, “In the not too distant future, we will be running classes for floral design at home, Terrarium making, indoor plant care and repotting.”

Miss Moss Florals is located at 6/25 Brierly St Weston Creek and online.
