In what sense won’t it be “recognised”? If it’s a legal marriage overseas between two American citizens, then of course it is “recognised” here at an official level. Anywayz, they’ve only been married for one month out of a 17-year relationship, so clearly they were happy to just be “partners” for 16 years and 11 months.

Not so much happy as “it wasn’t legally recognised by the supreme court of the US until June this year”. So basically, two months after it was legally recognised, they did it.
