Mega loud plane at 5 AM

Did anyone else inner north get woken by a loud low plane just after 5AM today?

Sounded old and slow, but I was half asleep. Normal mornings at 6.20 when the real planes start is early enough to wake up.

Who is it more effective to write a complaint to? TAMS or the airport direct?

I really hope this was some kind of one-off, or I am going to be even crankier in the mornings!

I saw the AFP out early this morning – lining the streets in Civic. VIP here I would guess.

Dutch PM. But he arrived in a normal plane.

Normal plane? Does that mean it has wings?.
I guess a lot of airports are below sea level in Holland.

huh?

Forget aircraft noise. I’m far more disturbed by the noise cockatoos make. Scares the beejesus out of my every time one of those b@stards flies over my head and screeches that obnoxious war cry!

It did go on for ages – and was really low – like flying in circles, but it didn’t seem to be a helicopter.

People today have told me it is worth writing to the airport as a complaint. If no one complains they use that in their favour as an argument for all night freight planes – saying we get no complaints about aircraft noise now.

Yup I heard it as well, out in Qbn at around 5:10am. Went on for at least 20 minutes or more, made it hard to get back to sleep

I, for one, welcome our new reptoid overlords.

Get double glazing. Reduces noise. I rarely notice planes now.

How did you know it was plane, instead of say a street sweeper?

Could be possible if the OP was sleeping in a drain under the road.

No curfew at Canberra Airport so complaint will be on deaf (ha ha) ears. I’m at the airport now and can see a USAF VIP over at 34 Sqn. Maybe that was the culprit?

Possibly an agricultural aircraft – they like to start early for spraying when conditions are calm. The noisy piston engine ones are using the old Lycoming flat 8, same as fitted to Piper Commanche 400.
It makes a beautiful noise.Unlikely that type of aircraft is fitted with a transponder.
