ACT Policing has arrested a 27-year-old Melba man after locating him in possession of an illicit substance, stolen property and being equipped for theft.

Around 3pm yesterday (Tuesday, 19 April), police observed a male riding a push bike along John Cleland Crescent, Florey. The male was standing on the pedals of his push bike as he rode and peering into the backyards of the adjacent properties.

Police stopped and spoke to the man who initially stated a false name. The male was positively identified and found in breach of bail of his ACT Magistrates Court conditions.

A search of the man’s backpack located house breaking tools including a hack saw blade secreted down the leg of his pants, drugs and stolen property.

The man was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House and will face the ACT Magistrates later today, charged with equipped for theft, unlawful possession of stolen property and possess prohibited substance.

But not for state false name? Why have that detail in the media report (and I’m assuming in the statement of facts) if they aren’t going to charge him with it?

Hopefully this scum will go to gaol, where he belongs.

Good on the coppers.

Meanwhile, I’m at home guarding the fort and looking after the kids during the school holidays. Burglars approaching my AO will not receive a friendly welcome.

There’s is always a whinger …… how bout “well done plod on getting another filthy prospective burglar off the streets.” No, instead there has to be SOMETHING to whine about !!!!

I would suggest that even if Police didn’t charge him with it, but have it in the statement of facts, would highlight to the magistrate or the public how Police suspicions were raised, due to him stating a false name. This would add supporting evidence to the alleged dishonest conduct of that person.

They’re all up to no good. Except recumbent cyclists obviously, they’re ok.

Can’t see over fences from a recumbent bike.
