Mega sleep-in by everyone else (someone had to feed the desperate cat…)
Stack of GCC emails caught up with and new Vice Pres secured.
Next Gungahlin newsletter half finished.
(that’s the community bit attended to)

Visited a few fairly empty furniture shops in Fyshwick and decided on stuff with which to equip the castle when the AWA buy-off comes through.
Movie and maccas with tiddlywinks.
(and that’s the family bit)

Yep – thanks Andrew.

If it has to move anywhere, keep it in the spring – it’s a great time of year to kick around and enjoy Canberra, and there are already stacks of public holidays in the first half of the year…

I went to the Racecourse first time ever.

When I stood up I could peer down lots of clevages of the 20 somethings.

When I sat down, I could look up their very short skirts.

Thankyou Mr Stanhope.

I will now go and slap a couple of carp together.

Thanks Andrew Barr.

I had a BBQ with 4 mates from work, their wives, families and a few enthusiastic next door neighbours. We’ve never done it before today. The kids played in the pool, the parents had a few beers and chardies, the kids had a great time on the punt as did the parents.

Who would have thought Family and Community Day would actually be used with family and community?

Naked Night at Mustang Ranch.

😀

Annie and the Armadillos at the Hyatt from 3.30pm to 6-ish.

And ricketyclik – 0.75%.

Why do I have to lose my 4 days because Jessica Wright’s mother can’t even out her massive profits over the year? FO Fiona.

I agree, some small businesses will be hit – but there are other holidays that they have to cater for. Just sort it out people. If the holiday stays, event companies will start organising bigger events to stimulate canberra business (albeit a little bit).

Always a pleasure, Overheard!

: )

I’m trying to put a bomb under my family to get them to move. C’mon fall out, people! I’m going to family and community day by myself if y’all don’t shift your shanks.

Too much energy required for FnC for me, Granny! Enjoy, and I’ll see you later for ‘The Band Broke Up’. Did I mention that I’m door b!tch again? Get there early-ish if you can so you can keep me company! There’s a CMC meeting immediately before it so I’ll be there about 7.15pm.

Back to FnC day, the scuttlebutt around is (and stop me if this has all been said here before) that we’ll all be back at work (for those that have work this time next year) on the first Tuesday in November. However, the suggestion (from the ACT Chamber of Commerce?) is to have the holiday on Monday. That way we still get to get FnC’d, but the hospitality industry doesn’t take such a hit with all those workplaces being back at work and organising luncheons and ordering vats of champagne and barns full of chicken.

Sounds sensible to me. I’ll probably still be in the ‘turn it into a four-day weekend’ brigade. Aha; loading finished. This is where I’ll probably be: http://picasaweb.google.com/OverheardProductions/Maldon200802#

… or fall in. Or something.

Nice to get an extra day off. I got up at 1030ish. Would be better on a Monday though.
I’m mulching by garden as it’s not too hot . . .

Ah, that makes sense now. Sorry Ricketyclick.

Hot tips? yep bet one each and every horse each way. That way you’re bound to be a winner on teh day!

Yes, start a new thread on the topic!

I’m sorry, people seemed to be saying what they were doing with the day – that’s what I’m doing.

I’ll spend the day picnicing down the cotter with other families (good friends) from my sons school.

You know … the thread is Melbourne Cup Day in Canberra. Are you lost?

You know… the first Tuesday in November RBA meeting.

Um … what?

Waiting to hear the news re. interest rate cuts.

Any hot tips?

I am spending the day with my F and C at home.
Rather than spending it with the F’n’Cs at work

Double time and a half pay.

hi-frigging-fives..

🙁

damn it, i wanted to spend time with my family and community!

Yes, I may do a review on this event … but I will be no soft touch I can assure you! I am very hard-bitten and cynical.

(And bitter and crusty even *tee hee*)

The Glebe Park event looks like a very good idea. Nice to see the Govt put this on.
Sleeping in will be nice when the kids get old enough to understand the concept. We’re cleaning house, making beer and cakes, helping kids decorate hats, and planning to watch the race with friends.

Family and Community Fun Day at Glebe Park from 12.30pm – 4.30pm.

Double time and a half pay.

Well I’m down the coast.

I think the break ins sound like the most fun so far.

Sleep-in then Melbourne Cup Luncheon at the Casino… I think it may be booked out though!

Watching news reports of drunken tarts staggering around at the races!

Yep, don’t plan to even think about getting out of bed until the sun’s over the yard arm. Don’t get many of those.

Then it’s this: http://the-riotact.com/?p=9297
