Melty roads

Roads ACT is currently placing crushed stone on a number of roads throughout Canberra to prevent damage from the heat. Signs warning of loose stones are posted at all sites where this treatment has been applied.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the heat and watch for loose stone signage. In some areas – depending on the extent of the problem, the type of road and the volume and speed of traffic – a reduced speed limit may be implemented.

The current hot weather is expected to continue tomorrow.

The weather is predicted to cool early next week and the loose stones on these roads will then be removed.

If people notice any issues on the roads they should report it to Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.

The hill descending from Sassafras onto the seaboard was melting on Tuesday, trucks had essentially picked up the road on their tyres, and the dirt was showing through. will be interesting to see what (if anything) they’ve done to address this. The Nerriga Rd is a pretty recently made road.

So JC, defender of chipseal, how much cheaper is it to lay rocks and clean them up 3 times in the same month, instead of using another method that results in a better final product in the first place? Just wondering! Surely we’re now breaking even, cost-wise?

On Thursday afternoon, Melrose near the car yards and the Mawson shops carpark east side were melting. It looked like extra gravel had been added around the Melrose/Hodgson intersection.

Oh so 80% of the roads in the ACT are melting? That is how much of the ACT roads that have chip seal? Though you may well find that both hotmix and chipseal roads are affected by the heat.

I see the Coolo car park has been ‘rocked’ again…
You know what they say: Third time’s a charm!

Great! So now they’re also dumping sh*tloads of gravel onto non-resurfaced roads too. Why don’t we just go back to dirt once and for all. I’m dead set sick of this crap and the crap they’re putting down that is nothing like “crushed stone” and more like river pebbles.

Newcastle St, Fyshwick certainly needs it between Ipswich and Gladstone Streets.

TaMS Media Room: How about some letting us know which roads so we can avoid using them?
