Merry Christmas from the RiotACT team!

We’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas for tomorrow, safe travels to those of you taking a break this holiday season and a Happy New Year.

We’d like to thank you for supporting us in 2016, too.

It’s been a year filled with change at the RiotACT, from our site redesign to the announcement of our acquisition by tech entrepreneur Michael McGoogan and former Allhomes CEO Tim White and the hiring of Josh Mulrine as our intrepid Business Manager.

We’ve had some big moments, such as when our 20,000th reader liked us on Facebook, when Josh’s video footage of Singapore Airlines’ first direct international flight into Canberra went viral, and when both the ACT Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition agreed to exclusive one-on-one video Facebook Live interviews with us two days out from the ACT election.

An exciting part of all of this for us has been building on our team of regular contributors over the year. Our Christmas drinks were more than twice as big in 2016 as they’d been the previous year!

We were thrilled to welcome Kim Huynh, John Thistleton, Maryann Mussared, Rebecca Vassarotti, Jane Speechley, Anne Treasure, Serina Huang, Elias Hallaj, Zoe Pleasants, Suzanne Kiraly, Rachel Moore, Robert Issell and Roger Allnutt to the contributing team during the year, complementing existing columnists John Hargreaves, Greg Cornwell, Paul Costigan, Kim Fischer, Alexandra Craig, Fiona Grimmer and Heather Lansdowne as well as several writers who have written occasional pieces.

Thanks also to Chester Ward, our enthusiastic intern, who helped us be in three places at once many times over, Mick Reid and Ellen Harvey, who worked as site editors/producers/writers earlier in the year, and former editor Amy Birchall, who is back producing over the holiday period and has compiled our weekly enewsletter for much of 2016.

Rachel Ziv has been an absolute star all year putting together sponsored content packages that create a buzz for clients by sharing their messages using her trademark storytelling skills to create articles that add value for our readers.

Most importantly, we’d like to acknowledge the readers who contribute to the RiotACT, helping to ensure that we remain a community-focused site for digital regional news and views, whether it’s by commenting on social media or on the website, by submitting an Ask RiotACT or an opinion piece, or by tipping us off to a news story or sharing a photo or video with us.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with in 2017 and look forward to sharing the next year in the capital with you all.

PS We’re not shutting down over the holidays, and hope you will enjoy the special summer reads we’re putting together for you to run over the coming days.
