I know there have been variations on a theme in the past.

Looking at getting a Colorbond style metal roof for many reasons.

Any suggestions re roofing companies?

Thanks in advance

the colour only peels of metal roofing if it has been touched up with spray cans. i.e. been scratched then sprayed over. Never seen original colour peel off a metal roofing.

There are quite a few places in Dunlop where the whole roof appears to have either faded to the point you can see silver. Doubt these places have been touched up. The houses I am talking about would be about 15 years old.

This is exactly what the roofs I referred to look like in my neighbourhood (North Tuggereanong).

No, but I can advise that if you do go ahead with Colorbond, make sure that the plumber, fits the collar of any flue’s coming out of your wet areas, properly. The plumber has responsability for this, not the roofer. We discovered a small issue on our new house a few years ago, in that the collar that is meant to seal the flue between the metal from the roof space and the outside, was not fitted and/or siliconned right. Over time, rain water channeling down the rillen of the Colorbond doesnt run off as does with tiled roofs, but collects, and in our case then drains into the roof space. You only find out some time later when your ceiling goes grey from rot, which cost us thousands to replace gyprock, plastering and paint. This isnt covered by the 7 year building warranty, as it isnt structural.

Check the collars regularly. We just discovered that the rubber on a six year old collar for the aerial had completely perished – hence the damage in the ceiling. When we checked the collars for other fixtures we found that they weren’t much better.

the collar is called a deck tight and the base should be fitted at a 45 degrees to the corrugates so water cannot pool behind the base of the deck tight.

pitched roofs can use corrugated sheets, flatter roofs use hidden screw clip lock style sheets.

I have noticed a few houses in my neighbourhood with what appears to be Colourbond corrogated roofing which would have been fitted about 20 years ago. The colour has “delaminated” or “unbonded” in places and at least one large house has had the entire roof replaced (under the lifetime warranty I believe).
Make sure you check out the integrity of the product by inspecting homes already fitted with it and also talk to the owners (and neighbours)
